Why do users of this forum use pseudonyms, Cavings not illegal or owt.
It would be nice to know whos out there.

Nice one Bubba, must really look at more of the older posts

Ps: what sort of a pseudonym's Bubba when you could call yourself owt

Bubba was originally just a joke from another forum, where I used to post in the style of a sort of Alabama redneck....can't even remember why now!!

But it's also kind of stuck because I'm a bit of a 14 stone "bubba" :D

I might yet change it, but I've been using it so long I don't even think about it....

I use a psudo-name because as others have said there are alot of nutters out there and people could make (and have made) my life difficult if they found out who I really was!. As it is my boss doesn't like sending me to do any jobs in the Wiltshire/Mendip area coz he knows that I'll spend more time U/G than I will at work!.

Why do people pick their particular forum names?. Anyone who is familier with numbers stations and shortwave radio will understand mine....or even my sig!!.

I dont think a bit of anonimity hurts anyone. lets face it, the forum is one of the better ones on the net! :D It could be more like ukclimbing where half the topics turn into ugly slanging matches and people seem to use pseudonyms to intimidate others.
It also had these little quality fellas- :scout:

Just think, a tubby two is not a big as a tubby one...

Well I have always been known as JJ in caving circles and that is for over erh 25 years.

Always been a tradition of Dales cavers being given silly nick names be it Slug, Worm, Lugger or whatever, lots of them. Folk often don't know someones real name.

So why should this board be any different.

I'm not a fan of pseudonyms, but if people think they're fun, that's okay I guess. On the other hand, how do you know this is my real name?

In Canada, a 'bubba' is a small keg of beer. (but... how do you know I'm really from Canada???)

Not a lot of people know this but on the small island of St. Bubbas, (about 25 miles SW of the tip of Antigua) the local dialect term "Canada" refers to a small bird, something akin to the European Ptarmigan.

I read this on a cigarette card back in 1957. Navy Cut, I recall.

Either you have a phenomenal memory, or you flip thru your cigarette card collection on a regular basis...

Did you know that the Canada Goose is not named after Canada? Both the country and the bird come from kanata, a native word meaning 'village'.

Yep. You learn something new every day.

Occasionally it is wise* not to communicate with strangers and also not to believe everything you read.
