Sand Cavern - help?

Last weekend we went down Gaping Gill on the winch - this was at the request of Mrs T (a definite non-caver) who had seen it on TV and decided she wanted to take a look. She has had brief trips underground before but doesn't really enjoy it  :( Anyhow she did very much enjoy the winch trip and looking round main chamber - so, she decided to give the trip to Sand Cavern a go  (y) unfortunately she found this a little too daunting and we turned back a short way out of the main chamber.

She is however interested to see what she missed, however I cannot locate a picture using the usual google image search etc. does anyone have a good shot of Sand Cavern they could post?

Nope, sandcaverns is on the way to Stream Passage Pot. Coming from Bar/Flood, its straight on at the T-junction (where right would take you to the Main Chamber)

In case it helps, there's a monochrome image in "Limestones & Caves of N W England" (a very good book edited by Tony Waltham in 1974, published by David & Charles Ltd) on page 321.

I don't have that book I'm afraid.

We have now found a photo on the WCMS site which is labelled Sand Chamber which is probably the same place?  :-\

Yes, if you start at Main Chamber, one of the two main passages goes to Mud Hall, the other goes to Sand Cavern. I take it that's what you meant by opposite?

Beware!, There is a sand chamber in Ogof Fechan, South Wales. I'm pretty sure there are other Sand Caverns/Chambers dotted around the country ;)

OK Alex, box up your camera and head for the dales - when you have a permit - and do it on rope and get your own pics? Depending on the day could go with you maybe?

Here's a small part of it.

Sorry, it's the only one I've got.

Your public library can easily get that book in for you. It's worth the effort because it includes Dick Glover's excellent chapter on the Gaping Gill system.

Aparantly, DCC held a Badminton match in there in 2007, website pictures not too good, but there might be others available if you ask.

Darwen Dave's picture does not look much like Sand Cavern, GG, to me, unless it's at the very start as you come from Main Chamber; this is Sand Cavern, GG:

Entrance to it maybe, but not as I remember it, (mind you, it was a while ago) :)

P.S. or even exit.

Please don't go up there!, I'm sure I can find you a Sand Cavern (or at least a Mud Hall) in the Peak District, if you go up there, we'll probably never see you again !!
