Tackle Washing

After a year of vigorous use my tackle has started to smell real bad :-[

Has anyone got any tips on the best way to freshen up a Warmbac Neo-fleece and wetsuit socks.

I put fabric softener and powder in and it doesn't seem to do any harm. It smells nice the next time you get wet in a cave!

Run the machiene for 2 cycles EMPTY and on its highest setting.

This makes sure there's no residue of normal washing chemicals in the system.

I used to do this before reproofing all of my walking gear.

Put them in the washing machine at 40 C.

30 C - global warming and all that  :spank:

I live in the USA (but I'm not American) and so global warming doesn't exist here. Therefore I can put the heating on with the windows open, wash socks individually at 60 C, and drive everywhere in a 5 litre urban tank!

?????

You only might need to do this if rewaterproofing with Nikwax type wash in stuff. Seeing as Mr Cosmic is only washing none waterproof stuff, then I don't see the point.

To make sure that the chemicals are all gone so that they don't bugger up any kit and when you get wet you don't end up smelling like a poofters jockstrap.

I must have washed my wetsocks 100+ times with powder and they haven't fallen apart yet.  I have only washed the neofleece around 10 times, but that is because it is relatively new.

I used to have a big water butt style barrel taking rainwater out of the gutter- and give all my kit a good ramming up and down in the wter when it got muddy- no waste water and it gets stuff far cleaner than trying to prat about with a hosepipe or brush etc....

Fleece and stuff will stay far fresher if it gets a good rinsing after using it. Anyway if you only wash it once a year you could probably do it in bleach and not worry  :tease:

And after 5 mins down a cave it will be all sweaty and stink again.....
