Things to do in the Dales with kids and dogs

I used to like Hebden Gill and Grassington Moor as a good place to get far from the sodding crowds when I lived up that way, but given that there are likely to be sheep around and some of the mineshafts aren't well capped to say the least, maybe not the best place to have young kids and dogs!

" Far from the sodding crowds " love it

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are back from a 3 days in the Dales where we managed at least a small cave everyday.
A bit different to all the Dales weekends we went on pre-kids with proper caving every day, but on the right side eventually they will grow up and leave home right???

Monday we had a little explore in Yordas with kids and dogs. Then drove to Cowan bridge and walked up Leck Beck to the gorge-y bit where you can swim and jump in. As we left we saw two other people on their way upstream - the only others we saw all walk. (they said we were the first people they had ever seen there and they go regularly!) Tea and cake in Bernies and a little play at Ingleton playground finished off the day.
Tuesday we went to Thorns gill and had a scramble and swim. We also had a little explore of Katnot cave which was great! However the stream got a bit deep for my shorts so we didn't reach the end. Afterwards we went to the Helwith bridge for lunch which was great
Today we visited the Hoffman kiln and surrounds then had a picnic outside Jubillee cave. The kids and dogs all enjoyed various short through trips in there until it was time to head home to the Peak.

Had a great time in the Dales and great suggestions from UKcaving for less busy/ popular spots for adventures.

There is a group working on fencing off the shafts on grassington moor (& the leadmining trail us interesting, if Spartan). Aysgarth falls was the other place best avoided - both car parks had full signs out when we drove past midweek.

To be fair Alex, revenge is sweet - becoming a Youtube megastar in your 1990 motorhome must be of epic embarrassment to any relative under 40!
