Traffic Regulation Order Consultation: Derby Lane

We are seeking views on whether motor vehicles should be prevented from using Derby Lane, a 2km route near Monyash. Our proposal is to make a Traffic Regulation Order to permanently exclude mechanically propelled vehicles from this route.

The six-week consultation runs from 28 April 2016 to 10 June 2016.

This will effectively stop cavers from driving on Derby Lane to visit Water Icicle Close Cavern.

  :(

The full detail is here:

Consultations here:

I've contacted the DCA to make them aware (if they are not already).

Haha, Lazy you say? I would much sooner spend that additional walking time, digging instead! ;)

And it's soooo much easier carrying scaffolding a mere 100m to the entrance shaft, instead of 1.5km! :)

Suspect this is a problem with biker 'green laners', surely a compromise can be reached by blocking the through route beyond the W.I. gateway?

Don't forget, most of these bans contain the clause 'except for access'.

It was blocked with boulders a few years back, to the extent that SWMBO only just managed to squeeze through the gate on her pony. I think there may have been a complaint about that blocking  which resulted in their removal, but I suspect that's resulted in more offroading traffic. I've not been up there for a while, has there been a lot of damage?

There are specifically designed barriers to allow solely equine access.

Otherwise, I think this is the clause we should consider--:

"Exceptions to the prohibition are proposed for:
a) use by emergency services or by any local authority or statutory undertakers in pursuance of their statutory powers and duties
b ) use to enable work to be carried out in, on, under or adjacent to the road
c) use for the purposes of agriculture or land management on any land or premises adjacent to that road
d) use by a recognised invalid carriage
e) use upon the direction of or with the permission of a Police Constable in uniform
f) use with the prior written permission of the Authority "

Although the specialists on DCA may find others.
