    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

A small detail: because you are hauling rope and not a squishy human, there is no need to close the swivel cheek of the Traxion. This saves time.

Err...

...about 5 seconds!  ;)

Hence "small detail". I don't claim it will revolutionise your caving..

People tend to underestimate how much time is saved by simplifying procedures. It might be 5 seconds on a good day, but 30 seconds on a butterfingers faff day.

Fewer openings of the carabiner also mean fewer chances to drop your expensive toy down the pitch.

Anyway, I tried this at the weekend and for me, it felt like the difference between being getting out the Traxion on a shortish pitch, and not bothering because it's too much faff. I might even try storing the Traxion open for derigging.
