ditto - I do have survex installed (v1.1.12).... go figure

Same as Sam - I've been having no end of issues with Tunnel - I would prefer to use it but I'm at the point of going back to pencil and tracing paper.

Can I just check, do you have Survex installed in the default location (C:\Program Files\Survex)?

On all the machines I have set up, I install Survex to this default location, install Sun Java 6, and unzip the Tunnel zip file package downloaded from the Tunnel website (Look for link: Download Tunnel_Install.zip (dated 2009-03-16) ). This works for me on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista machines.

Aha!!!! Found the problem. If you look at the output in the command window, you see a message 'Must create tunnelx/tmp directory to use this feature'.

The tmp directory is missing in the zip file distribution I created. I'll create a new updated one and put it on the Tunnel website.

You can of course create the tmp directory in the tunnelx directory yourself to get things working. Please don't give up now. This is how software is developed, with user input and testing to sort out these sorts of bugs!

Thank-you - this feature now works.  All I need to do is to get it to get the output .png to match what appears on the screen - at least put the symbols I've added and figure out how to get the area function to work.

OK, new Tunnel build with this problem fixed is now on the download page: http://www.freesteel.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Installing_and_Running

This is a build of the latest source code, which I have only given a brief test. So if you see any problems, let me know.

I extracted the file to C:\program files\

The which created C:\programs files\tunnel with two sub directories (Tunnel & symbols) but no "tmp" one so the SURVEX feature is still broken (unless I manually create the directory myself).

That is curious. I have checked the zip file, and it definitely contains the empty tmp folder. I wonder if some methods of unpacking a zip file ignore empty folders? I just tested extracting the zip file using Windows Explorer on a Windows Vista machine, and I get the tmp folder OK.

I have just downloaded it again and unzipped it (WinZip) - no tmp folder is created.  Checking the original zip file shows no tmp folder.  I cleared my local cache and made sure that I got the most recent uploaded file.

Are you using Firefox by an chance? If I download using Firefox I get the old version of the file (presumably from some cache). But if I download using IE then I get the new one!

The new file is 512K in size, and contains files dated 28-07-09

To get the newer file in Firefox, I had to open Tools/Options. Then select Advanced/Network. On that tab, click the 'Clear Now' button. Now I can download the newer file.

IE8 both normal and compatibility modes, have purged local cache (sveral times) and end up with 500 kB file dated 27 July 2009 10:21!  The download page says 28 July.  Will try from home.

OK - Sorted - I think..

I'm using Firefox 3.0.12, Vista.

Just deleted the old tunnel folder.
Downloaded the new zip file, extracted to C/:program Files/Tunnel

and I get

double click run.bat

File>New Empty Sketch

Import>Import Survex File > this works
Import>Import Center line > S just turns Green

repeat the above - but uncheck the 'Use Survex' box and I get...

So still not working.

Survex is installed here...

Sam,

When you try to Import Centreline with the 'Use Survex' option ticked, can you look at the text output Window for messages please? Also, look in the tmp folder for Survex files. Let me know what you find.

Cheers for the online support Footleg  (y) (dont suppose you can sort out my troublesome new router  can you  o_O - only joking)

.tmp folder remains empty all the time.

output window contains this after going through the empty new sketch > import survex file > import centerline (with Use Survex ticked)

The .tmp  folder has a 'read only' property ticked - Im thinking this may be the cause - but I've tried un checking it - to no avail.

This is most likely Windows security blocking the program from writing to the Program Files directory.

Try moving the Tunnel folder to 'C:\Tunnel' and try running it from there. If you get the same problem, then try moving it under your 'My Documents' area and try running it from there.

Right, I've added a note on the Wiki under the download link to help users avoid this issue in future! Thanks for persevering so that we could get to the bottom of it!
