• Canal Cave - Nidderdale

    Some interesting exploration techniques.

'The next thing was to purchase a generator and pump. The plan being to test pumping out the flooded bedding in Lofthouse pot and fill HUTWP. The latter in a vain hope of creating water pressure to open up the choked bedding'.

This sounds like an excellent idea. There is definitely a lack of caver's accommodation in the Fermanagh/Cavan area.

I have to admit to never having heard of USSCC, so I had a look at your website. This has left me unclear about what sort of organisation you are. Are you a "traditional" caving club/society or a profit-making organisation? I am particularly concerned that even members appear to have to pay to attend trips. My concern is that you are asking people to support your purchase of a (much needed) caving club hut, but that you may then end up charging those same people commercial rates for staying there.

Apologies if I have simply misunderstood. Perhaps you could clarify the situation? Likewise, perhaps some local cavers could offer their opinion?

To be clear, I would be very happy to support your competition and aim of providing caver's accommodation in Fermanagh if said accommodation was ultimately for the benefit of cavers, rather than a profit-making exercise.

Hi we are a regular Caving Club members don't pay for trips they sign up for trips our average trip is around 17 quid and that's fee is for accommodation etc... We are a Not for profit organisation and we do a lot of community work for free taking kids away etc...

Money is not what we want but unfortunately we can't make this happen without a little bit of money hence the reason we are asking

I'm unsure why you may think we are in it for profit but that is not true!

As for the Cave hut it's not finalised but it will be around £10 per night like any other Caving Hut.

I personally bought the prizes and I am putting them up for the competition

I hope this answers your questions

I have to say I'm a bit upset by the last post as its way out of context we make no money whatsoever and struggle to get buy month to month the reason we are a Limited by Guarantee is so that we can take community groups away for free and protect our members etc...

USSCC is just a normal caving club in Northern Ireland, All funds go into the running of the club just like any other club.Small fee for trip yes this funds goes into the equipment funds to buy kit for club to allow us to provide gear for members to borrow while starting out.

not sure how the subsumption of the option of profit or commercial came into question here to be honest.

I'm sure every club has slightly different internal day to day running differing on the membership base, what they provide to there member or what ever thes case may be.

we have a project here with a great potential to provide local cavers with top affordable permanent accommodation in Fermanagh an the surrounding areas.

There will be alot of effort an time put into this project in the coming year.

yes it's in the early stages of the project an will be a get success with support it receives.

all to progress will be updated as it goes along,an as all the volunteers in the project does the work an has it's moves from stage to stage.

Any ways any doubt you or anyone may have,I guarantee it's not factual at all.

USSCC is just a normal caving based in Northern Ireland that's all an nothing more.

Dunno what more to say on that really.

Thanks @USSCC and @FermanaghBell for the clarification. Sincere apologies for any upset or confusion caused. I was simply attempting to do some due diligence, but have clearly misunderstood the USSCC website. With the reassurances given, I wholeheartedly support you in this endeavour and have purchased my tickets. I started my caving career in Fermanagh/Cavan and still have a very soft spot for the area and its caves. I’m sure it will be a long journey to make this a reality, but it will be an invaluable resource in the area. I look forward to introducing many new GB-based cavers to the area when you get this up and running.

Can I ask roughly where it is and how many you expect it to sleep?

It should be mentioned that the future Cave hut won’t be USSCC owned and operated? I think? As far as I know the Fermanagh cave hut will be its own entity at some stage and it’s just members from the USSCC who have had the idea. The project is very much open to any and all caving clubs and other types of club. Anyone with any input at these early stages would be greatly appreciated I’m sure

Thanks for the reminder, I need to get onto sorting my entry!

Fermanagh is a lovely part of the world and although I've never had a problem with staying either end of Cladagh Glen, as caving huts go, that looks amazing!

When is the draw November 30th?
