Bolted some ice for a pleasing Y-hang and several hours later learnt the hard way just how much harder it is to prusik climber-style

Replaced a bobbin on my Kong Banana descender for a Starless River stainless steel version. A few uses on muddy fixed ropes wore out the aluminium one and descents were getting a little brisk.

I got three years on mine before I even considered rotating them - and that's on some real dirty shit sometimes. Worth their weight - which is considerable, but that's the deal...:)

One of the reasons I liked the banana was that it weighed a lot less than the rack. Not any more!
I blame several descents of Cussey Pot mostly.

Wandered down to the lower Kirk area in easegill but gave up on that objective when the ‘lake of 1000 banana skins’ conditions catapulted me to the floor, ejecting my iPhone and van keys from my pocket into a convenient pool a few meters short of the thru cave. Suffice to say both seem entirely unaffected by thier swim. Walked up to county and back. Have to say that Gale Garth pot doesn’t look to have been visited for quite some time judging by its entrance mostly covered by foliage.

You know what I like after digging? A nice long shower. Careful what you wish for.

(Yesterday rather than today, but ukc posting wasn’t the first thing on my mind after a late arrival home 😅)

Went for a long swim in Settle pool, as a substitute for not getting in the water underground in the Dales. (The vis has been continually bad and I've yet to have a drysuit on my back this year; arrrgh!)

Ha ha - I've spent all my life trying to perfect the technique of insulating myself from cold water.

No way am I going to let wild swimmers persuade me to abandon that insulation!

(Had this conversation with Johnny in Inglesport several times.)

maybe you'd acquire more natural insulation if you swapped the raw broccoli for family size bars of chocolate, take a leaf out of Todd's book (y)

Evening Pete, although I've been to Swildon's a few times, I don't know it that well; where is the 'duck-like section at ~9–45?

That's the start of "Rolling Thunder" at the bottom of the old 40' pitch. It's usually a gravelly crawl, not a duck!
