As pasta is not Italian..mak said:so salami is actually a Greek invention not Italian ?
Ah obviously not! Salamis was in fact an ancient Greek "meat product" based game of some sophistication. Based originally on the premise that "my sausage is bigger than yours". It was very questionable wether their defeat of the Persians was entirely fair, as the Greeks were still developing the rules at the time. It is thought in some academic quarters that they made them up as they went along, to the disadvantage of the Persians.Peter Burgess said:allowed Athens to build the fleet which defeated the Persians at Salamis
I never was much good at classical history. I always thought the Greeks beat the Persians with salamis, not at salamis......

If I remember what my daughter (who lived in China) told me, "chow" is phonetic Cantonese for "food" whereas "Ciao" is Italian for "Cheery bye" (for a near Home Counties audience)c**tplaces said:As pasta is not Italian..mak said:so salami is actually a Greek invention not Italian ?

Still happening today, though it's the US making the rules up as they go along, to the disadvantage of the Persians.
