Hi All,
I am looking to do a bit of underground video.  Nothing spectacular, but I would like to be able to play it on the tele and it look half descent.  I am looking for suggestions for ones to look out for on ebay perhaps as I don't have a big budget.
Thanks

Hmm. If you're buying something cheap and new, I think you're likely to be disappointed by the quality, particularly in low light (caving) conditions.

One thing to consider is to do video recording with a digital still camera.

I've been fairly impressed by the quality of movie recording on a Canon Powershot A520, and its probably fairly cheap to pick up similar models as a 'mere' 2,3,4 megapixels is not considered enough anymore for stills.

Thanks,
I was not even considering a helmet cam as I bang my head a lot and its life expectancy would be very short

I was ideally looking for a hand held unit that would be a step up from the video on my still camera.

The quality of the hero is only suitable for you-tube. If you need decent pcis from a bullet cam /helmet you need one with a sony chip hooked to a camcorder. The biggest problem with underground is the poor light, which shows up as very muddy / poor grainy pics, so look for the camera with the lowest lux rating. HD is the way, try looking at some the new type Sanyo ones they are cheap and have reasonable (not as good as sony) picture quality for the price think the even do a water proof one.

As someone else mentioned look at the new hybrid cameras that shoot decent HD video, from Panasonic, Olympus Canon etc that way you get the best of both worlds

I bought a helmet cam from these guys for a ski trip at the beginning of the year.

Went for the low light version (with the Sony chip) so I could use it elsewhere. The camera will work at 520 lines but for budget reasons I only went for the basic recorder (640x480). Initial results on snow were quite impressive for the price and the first go underground wasn't too bad either

A 2Gb Card gets you 1hr50 video. No point in going higher on the card as the recorder battery is only good for about 1:30
