Winnats head cave

errrr - like.... world endingly wet.

The stream pitches, if your planning those are always wet, but its damn good trip just to get there, so its not a wasted effort if they are impassable, you've seen the bulk of the cave and either up or down, they don't lead anywhere amazing.

Watch those chokes mind

IMO the pitches are prettty amazing, and quite pretty in a sculpted sort of way - totally out of character with the pre-Fox and post-Fox lumpy bits.

Is there still a geo-cache in the entrance series?

I think we put a stop to 'the most ridiculously positioned geocache in the world'
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=390731
I keep an eye on the geocache site and its been 'archived' and has not been mentioned in a long long while (thank goodness).

Yes - the pitches are great, They'd be a bit unpleasant if they where very wet, but not impassable. I dont think it ever gets 'that' wet in there.

What about the "sewar" before the pitches does that sump?

Alex; stop worrying about nothing, it's not going to rain much if it does! If I were you I'd worry more about the chokes than the water (not that I know what they are like, just what I've heard/read)

No - the sewer does not sump. Its in an entirely separate bit of cave from the stream and only takes a trickle that drips down through the choke.

You see, Dunc I am worrying about those chokes lol thats why I was asking if it floods because if it does then I got an excuse hehe, but it don't look like I will.

I wonder if I can turn around at the choke like I tried to do a Peterson lol, took me 15 minutes to free my bloody foot from the rift and ended up sky diving it like everyone else, is the choke harder or easier then that one, I wonder?

route finding can be a problem. follow the old rope through the first choke. You'll see how much it has shifted in the past!

Yes, quite unnerving seeing the rope pinned between rocks now.

It's alright on the way in, your always looking down at your feet. On the way out, you start looking up at the roof

Where abouts did you get to, Did you go upstream at all, and if so - did you end up at some scaffolding holding up a choke at one point

Aye Pete I was meaning the Sky-dive in Peterson, but the one in Winnats was nothing like that. Winnats as a trip was easier then I expected reading the other trip reports. Only difficult bit was doing that bottom choke going up as I was still wearing most of my SRT kit and had to turn around on that little rock just below the squeeze, where it starts to overhang. This was so I could face the right way to get through the squeeze. Lugging tackle bags through the chokes them made it a little tiring as we ascended quite far but nothing in there I would say was that difficult.

No didn't do that bit, but we did discuss whether or not the red bucket at the top of the slot/climb was supporting something  ;)

I hope you're not still grumbling about having a slightly heavier bag part of the way out. Told you, character building and strength building so it won't seem quite as bad carrying them in the future!!!
