Wookey Hole Dive - Aug 24

It's called "Yakety Sax" if you're trying to source it for an alternative take.

As someone who's not a "real" diver, although I stick a fin in the water now and again so let's say 1/2 diver... I actually really like the (very few) videos out there where there is just the original sound, although if for example a GoPro is in a waterproof case, not sure how that's recorded? The sound of the second stage, an occasional bottle clunk, if dive scooters are used (not so much UK sumps ;) but in mines) they make nice whirring noises. It all gives it an underwater feel, rather than music which seems to make it feel less underwater for me.

For me anyway, it gives an extra dimension I love. My first ever dive (doing an open water with a bit of a cowboy outfit abroad, zero pool sessions after you watched the PADI online training then you were given kit and sent to the harbour) I was mesmerised by the different sounds, boats that make deep marine diesel engine noises on surface, making strange whining/whirring noises as they passed nearby. The noise of breathing. I love hearing those underwater sounds.

Anyway I'd put original sound in first place for soundtrack, even better than Yakety Sax!

Enjoyed the video, thanks!
I haven't tended to do videos without the music, mainly because the sound of my gloves on the GoPro waterproof housing makes an awful screeching. I am tempted to play around with possible mounting positions for it, but equally don't want to be messing around with non-essential kit too much in caves. My dive buddy Nick uses his mounted to his helmet and recorded the entire dive, although not sure that would 75mins of dive be hugely entertaining for anyone 😂

I think unedited 75mins would be a bit on the long side 🤣

But.. not knowing the dive I'd assumed (don't know why...) that it was short/quick. Maybe you could add text before dive to say how many metres and deepest depth, then at the end how many minutes? Sure that's not too technical for non divers. Just a suggestion

I used an underwater chisel on a boulder problem. What is interesting about the sound, is the video recording does not pick up the 'ringing' that you hear as the chisel operator. And that is extremely painful.

Seems quite a flow in there?

Yes, the flow was quite nice, you can see how the boulder broke off in a layer. I then tried plugs and feathers with J. Lister, but we drilled vertically and the drill broke. And that was the wrong direction. P. Hall and M. Butcher went in and drilled horizontally with much more success. It was an interesting problem. Sorted now.

Some form of ear barrier needed!

Yes, OCL was quite right. I noticed that if I was looking at the 'chisel face' the ringing in my ears was really bad. But if I put my head down then, I presume the 'sound wave ' passed or was dispersed/ diffracted over my helmet and the ringing stopped. However when you put your head down you cannot see how the work is progressing! Would I use an underwater chisel again? it is a lot of faff getting it insitu and then running it off a separate air cylinder. Since I did this all solo, and seen the results. I can honestly say 'No'

Other than the more rapid rock removal, method ! Assuming you can drill underwater, plug and feather works. A bit less impact than chiselling.
