Have you just volunteered to produce one then

I got next to nothing manufacturing skills or a jigsaw to make such a thing, but would be easy I guess for ones who do possess such skills and tools. But, why is it whenever I suggest anything people say I volunteer to do the said thing? If I was going to do it, I would say. This always happens on here, whenever I suggest something, it's why don't you do it as if suggesting something means I want to or have means to do said thing, where did I say I would do it in that post???? Why have you not asked anyone else the same question? This reminds me why I don't bother posting much on here anymore.

I'm no expert on airflow in caves (or much else). But I think we should keep our impact to a minimum where-ever possible. For instance the tunnel upto the Battle Field in Whitescar (clearly not a great example) has a door to maintain the draught through it's orginial route, so I don't think we should shut off airflow. It can also be a navigational aid.

Just a thought.

Red Rose has informed the CNCC that Wretched Rabbit works are basically complete so it should be going back on the bookings system in due course. The temp cover for the pipe was just knocked up using the old fence posts that were there so we'll need a longer lasting one in due course. We're also thinking that lining the base of the pipe with some conveyor would be a good idea to give a bit more grip and prevent the base of the pipe being worn through in time.

Big thanks to all the members and other visiting cavers who have helped out with this major bit of work. Nice hobbit at the entrance!

You could say that about many of the Ease Gill entrances. It was dug open in 1984 but was already a draughting hole

All this talk of keeping the sheep out, but has anyone considered taking the more positive route and putting up a sign directing the sheep to newtocaving.com? Maybe community could do with some demographic change, or is that idea too wooly?

CNCC Cave Booking System

Instant online booking of caves in the Yorkshire Dales. This system replaces the previous permit system and will be expanded to include more areas in the future.

Use of the Online Booking System is not mandatory, because of course the caves included are on CRoW Access Land. However, for the caves of Ingleborough, Leck and Casterton Fells we do encourage use of this system. This is out of respect to the landowners who consented to such open access in return for implementation of such a system, as well as to avoid congestion (which has conservation benefits).

Nice little trip through today, all looks very professional and a substantial amount of work involved - Thanks all! Hopefully it will last for many more years.

I know it's been wet everywhere recently. Beck was dry outside WR itself, no water on the climbs. What the CNCC guide described as 'usually a trickle' on the "all weather", "dry" route, was a notable little stream (maybe 1-2" deep). Not in anyway a risk or challenge at that level, but substantially wetter than I remember WR being (although it's been quite some time since I was there) even in wet conditions., and enough to give us pause and consideration. Has the hydrology changed? Is this just a slow stream from previous wet weather? Does it ever get challenging? Those cascades would become troublesome with not much more water added to that stream, and potentially the crawl later on too.

The beck was in full flood this week all the way through the Kirk so the extra water could be off the back of that. Didn’t fancy heading underground on the day to find out!

The hydrology has also changed in the last few years. Pool Sink doesn't fill up in moderately wet weather in the way it used to, nor does Cow Dub, which is often now stagnant. Water seems to be finding its way underground in different places now.
