Yep - several times, using the easy climb down under the overhang, havent tried them in the crawly way yet. They need a bit of a leg up/down on the climb, other than that they are fine. Not seen any frogs down there as yet though (mad, in a box or otherwise).

the rare moss is a myth...... that signs been there since the beginning of time lol
It was fit and well when we (well, the diggers in our club) dug the trench you were standing in as a deterrent to people climbing up the fall, and a hint to use the stacked boulders at the left hand end of the ledge. Dont think I have been back in there for years, did a survey trip that took us 100' below the entrance to Moose's dive base in the large phreatic tube and chamber. From the look of that water you wouldnt even get to the breakthrough point...

is there a survey for it (out of interest?)
AFAIK - yes, the data has been collected and I believe plotted up. The only time I saw it was as a centre line only plan and elevation.
Shotlighter may have a copy, or know where one is...
If needed I can give a brief (and probably hazy after 10 - 15 years) description.
There is still a huge potential and some ongoing leads that need pushing.

I do have the survey but it's not very informative.
Of probably more use is the discription I wrote for the the (still to appear) new COTPD.
Wouldn't all this be better in the original "guess the cave thread"?

Just received confirmation that the Mining Museum will now release the key for Youd's Level.

Thanks must go to the DCA Conservation Officer for some sterling work in getting this sticky problem sorted.  (y) sorry about the pun.

One last post...

Received today from DCA Conservation Officer (DW):

"The Environment Agency are pleased to say that Youd's Level can now be considered clear of the pollution/sewage leakage that has dogged this site for almost two decades.
A great deal of effort and money (over ?15,000) has gone into solving the problem which has involved the DCA, the EA, and Severn Trent Water -who have picked up the bills. It has been perhaps one of the least pleasant jobs that any of us have had to deal with!

Thanks are due to all those involved in producing a successful outcome and never gave up, especially those who  collected water samples from a drippy smelly roof for analysis. (This job was especially interesting when the flow suddenly increased indicating that someone had flushed the loo! )

Please continue to take care as there is an amount of residual pollution and lots of rat droppings so be aware of the risk of Weil's disease."

I'd just like to add a personal thanks to the individuals, associations, agencies and PLCs for their efforts.

Ta.

If you are doing the through trip from Gentlewoman's to Youd's you normally do have to remove a fair amount of gravel from the squeezes. I agree they are tight (and generally wet) but passable for anyone of average build providing you shovel enough gravel out of the way first. There always used to be a shovel/trowel there to make this easier. However it's wise to have at least one set of ascending gear with you just in case someone can't get through.....

Hi Inskia, agree. check stats above does that mean i'm a fatty.we took a full half hour to make enough space and  dig  only the blade of a spade to dig with kibble overflowing thereafter it was all on to keep clear from that which was washing down. the lower squeeze was filling as i tried to pass on my back  wedging me as i passed. needing the small of my back clearing as i went.
Be honest if you think i'm too fat i'm well adjusted enough to take it (y)
