I bet you still remember "Omnia Gallia in tres partes divisa est" and "Caesar adsum iam forti, Brutus aderat, Caesar sic in omnibus, Brutus sic in ut." Not to mention Fabius cunctator.

What is: Fabius cunctator?

Our Latin teacher was from Preston so we all learned to pronounce Latin phrases with a heavy Lancashire accent...
I'm not a complete idiot: some parts are missing!

Yes, just Googled it:  Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus, surnamed Cunctator (c. 280–203 BC), was a Roman statesman
Thanks.

Yeah, surely it's time for another silly picture?
That one with the queen and the bishop had me roaring (and reminded me of an episode of "The Prisoner" series, incidentally).

There must have been a standard template for grammar school Latin teachers after WW2.

I had "Taffy" Williams, war hero, probable alcoholic, inveterate thrower of chalk and board rubbers and passionate fan of Welsh rugby. He always taught in an academic gown and actually made Latin interesting. He would always choose me at No.8  for the Williams House XV, even when I was playing at centre for the school. One of the few teachers I have fond memories of.

That's how they do it in Australia.

Meanwhile - back on topic - Fabius Cunctator. He was a general who delayed giving battle against Hannibal unless he had superior forces - a bit like Montgomery in WWII. Hence the agnomen "Cunctator". I bet that's the first time "agnomen" has been used on UK Caving.

It is more generally called "Fabian Strategy".
