That's what I thought. My interest was piqued as from the very brief description it is a substantial hole. Has anyone on the forum been down it? If they have it must have been around 40 years ago.
So it is! I should have looked there first. I did look up the UBSS Procs.
It does sound a complete shithole but interestingly the description in the UBBS and Mendip Underground does not tally with Caves of the Bristol Region which says to the north of the rift chamber there is a larger chamber 90m long. Confusion or was the cave extended?
Thanks Mike, most interesting. That settles the "90m long chamber" then. So Phil Hendy went down! He was in my house a couple of days ago, but he's not on UKcaving. I'll ask him, see what he remembers.
If the farmer stopped chucking carcasses down it may be more salubrious by now but from what axbridgecaver said the farmer is resolute that he won't give access.
