Can anyone tell us what the current length of the Peak Cavern System is? (By this I mean the combined Peak, Speedwell, Titan and JH system.) An internet search has produced slightly conflicting results.

Blimey - no responses so far. Mind you, it may not be a particularly easy question to answer.

I don't need great precision; it's just a quick check for something I've been asked to write. If I said "about 18 km" would anyone argue that's a long way out?

Reavis did tell me a figure on Friday night, but I've forgotten. He must have been busy this morning recounting the Gautries incident to BBC Breakfast (7.15am- ish)...

The Castleton Parish news needs accurate figures.

According to the survex model (which is definitely still missing lots of bits):

Total length of survey shots:  22748m
Total plan length:  19386m
Total vertical length:  6186m

Thanks all - so I propose to say "approaching 20 km".

. . . or perhaps "around 20 km" would be safer.

Some years ago - maybe 5 or 6 years, I was told it was 17km. Mind you there have been a few discoveries since.
