Chas Yonge

And from the Guardian website:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2020/feb/14/charles-yonge-obituary

The Guardian's obituary went online (with two photos) on 14th February but only appeared in print on 28th March (one photo)...

Descent 273 (April/May) also carries memorial articles by Adrian Duncan and Ian McKenzie.

Just to be absolutely complete, the material about Chas in Descent 273 also includes tributes from Martin Kaye and Mark Tringham.

In the obituary there is a mention of a flooding incident involving Chas in "a deep cave near Settle" in which he almost drowned. Can anyone shed any more light on this?

Chas was involved in the Langcliffe rescue on June 17th 1972, so it may have been that.
