I don't think everyone would agree with the term 'Best' for one of my favourite opening lines. Ian Dury & the Blockheads playing Plaistow Patricia. I'll not post the link as it may offend. I'm sure you'll easily find it if your not familiar with the lyrics of the late, great Ian Dury.

Not one to play in front of your mother as I did as soon as I got back from WH Smiths in the centre of Sheffield after finishing school early. My dad went loopy when he got home from work and the following day took it back and demanded a refund. He gave them a proper telling off for selling the album to me as there was an age restriction on it and I was under it. The age restriction was almost certainly because of the opening line of Plaistow Patricia.

I know it well Mark, and there have been times underground when something's going wrong that I've sung it!

For a hillariously funny first line, the not-quite title track of Half Man Half Biscuit's latest album is a belter, though the whole album is a gem - try "Knobheads on Quiz Shows" for more spray-coffee-onto-screen lines!

Dirty old mines need love too....

Same goes with Lana Del Rey's song about 'Cola'. Not for listening to before the 9pm watershed.

Best opener off the top of my head, and one of the best bands ever!

The ten years spent digging in the huge boulder choke in Bone Hole choke made me think of the following more than once (from iiO - Rapture (Tastes So Sweet) ;

      The night I laid my eyes on you
      I felt everything around me move

I won't let on how often it came true...
