New Petzl Stop & Freino karabiner

@Mark Wright - thanks for your detailed response. I did wonder about the braking spur on the outside but will probably not bother now after testing again last night inside. I repeated the roll-in of the cows tails into the carabiner with the gate facing the outside and that is enough to put me...

New Petzl Stop & Freino karabiner

@Cantclimbtom - Freino ( the top one ) - selected as it said it could be used with a Grigri ( which gave another option ) @Samouse1 - all the gear compressed together as the cowstails were weighted and couldn't get to the gate to free the rope, it wasn't tight.

New Petzl Stop & Freino karabiner

@topcat that's probably going to be my next step ... In answer to ari : The freino was properly orientated. Descending Sell Gill first pitch the rebelay is on your right - my cowstails are on the left of the stop krab so at some point the cowstails will cross while lowering onto them. The hand...

New Petzl Stop & Freino karabiner

Having replaced my old stop with the new version I also bought a Freino krab to go with it. First time out on Sunday I encountered some problems and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same. At the first rebelay I lowered onto my cowstails and found that I couldn't get the rope free of...

We spoke to the farmer there who was very friendly and said we used to park up at High Birkwith, his comments were that he got on with the High Birkwith farmer okay ( farmer to farmer ) but...

How long have caves been there in their current form ?

Thanks very much for all the information, most of it is way beyond what I understand so I will go with Ian P’s response that it was dug by a dragon. I suppose we were lucky not to see it on Sunday it must have been sleeping in Diccan somewhere. 😀

How long have caves been there in their current form ?

As we were sat at the bottom of the main shaft at Alum yesterday waiting for one of the party to prussik up, we were talking about how long it took to form Alum and how long had it been there in it's 'current' form. Are we talking hundreds, thousands of years or much longer ?

    PVC Caving Suits

I'm having to face accepting that my old Meander caving suit is finally past it .... it has been patched numerous times and  still has numerous holes. So I'm looking for a new PVC caving suit, I have seen the threads about the new Meander and the Warmbac but a friend has a Landjoff suit from...

Collapse on Mud Hall traverse, Gaping Gill

Hi, does anyone know the current state of the Mud Hall Traverse. We are planning on going during the Spring Bank Winch meet and deciding where and what to do might be dependent on the existence of the traverse. At the end of the attempted round trip through Mud Henslers to Mud Hall, it might...
