    Club trips

I'm interested to know how other caving clubs organise club trips, if they have them, if they have "hut meets"/members-only weekends that are separate to social events, and if there is good attendance on club trips. Thanks in advance :)

Bull Pot Farm - power outage

Please don't come to the farm for the time being. Something got struck by lightning last night and we don't have power, therefore we don't have water or flushing toilets. I'll update once it's back up. The power people are working on it.

    Cow Pot limestone beds

Yesterday whilst shivering waiting for something just beneath the climb & awkward tube at the bottom of the Cow Pot shakehole, I noticed that there are two distinct beds of limestone at that location. The lower one is paler and more creamy coloured; the upper one is darker and more grey...

    Climbing wall rules

I've just had an embarrassing experience at a climbing wall where I was told my harness was too old and that I wasn't allowed to climb there using it. I think my harness is fine but perhaps I'm wrong. Has anyone else had the same, or heard of this? They don't check the age or condition of...

    Free things

Can I interest anyone in a Tunnocks hat, courtesy of the CUCC Austria expo some years ago, or a helmet lamp bracket?

    County Pot ropes

Advance Notice On Saturday 7th October I intend to remove the ropes from the first and second pitches in County Pot, and from the chimney to Poetic Justice.

    Caving club committee roles

Apart from President, Chair person, Treasurer and Secretary, what roles does your committee or club have? I can only have so many poll options so please add others in the comments.

    Notts Pot Adamson's Route

Does anyone know when the stemples (just before Birthday Pot) were installed in Adamson's Route, Notts Pot? Just curious how they came to be there.

    Gavel Pot Bats

There were two beautiful bats in Gavel Pot today, in the chamber at the base of the second pitch, above the walled climb. It was nice to see them. One was flying around and the other was shuffling about on its roost. Hopefully we didn't disturb them too much.

    Cave snacks

What do you eat when you're underground? Do you make your own snacks? I'm looking for inspiration 😄

    Y-hang

For a Y-hang with the traverse going to the "bottom" of the Y, is it better to tie a bunny ears rather than two alpine butterflies, with a long loop for both butterflies? Is there a reason not to tie two alpines close together with long loops?

Found: white rope and two krabs, Calf Holes

Under a ledge at the entrance to Calf Holes, a white rope (8 mm?) and two karabiners. Left them where they were. We are nearby so can go and fetch them if useful.

What to wear for a Swildons short round trip

At some point I would like to do the Swildons short round trip. I've bought a neoprene hood and I've got a diving mask. I haven't got a neofleece. But I do have neoprene vest and shorts. Are they necessary or is a furry suit usually considered to be enough? Thanks :)

Found: SRT kit, Bull Pot Farm

There's been a full SRT kit hanging in the changing room at Bull Pot Farm for a few weeks. It has an MTDE chest harness, a pantin, a pulley-jammer and other distinguishing features. It doesn't have any tape or similar markings on it. It's a little muddy. I put it in on one of the lost...

    What is this?

Does anyone know exactly what this odd looking aluminium pan is for? On the side is stamped Bulpitt Birmingham, and on the lid it says Swan Brand. The lid fits well but there's a small chance it's not the original. It came from our Guides unit cupboard of camping gear, which we are reducing a...

Does your club have a training programme for new cavers?

Thinking mainly about SRT and ladders (although other thoughts are welcome) I'm wondering: - How many caving clubs have training programmes or some other formal arrangement for members who are new to caving? e.g. a structured or ad-hoc training programme delivered by specific people in the...

    Stone shelter on Whernside

Does anyone know what this stone construction is? It's towards the top of the Whernside ridge on the Chapel-le-Dale side. Approx SD735802. Inside it has a passage going more than a few metres into the hillside, with stone walls and a stone roof and looks person sized. The entrance is small...

Wanted (to borrow): Gazebo, mess tent or shelter

This is a big favour to ask (again). Is anyone able to lend me a gazebo, mess tent, or similar shelter for a few weeks? We are hoping to get on with the Lancaster Hole repairs soon and the job will be a lot easier if we have some shelter from bad weather, so I was hoping to be able to borrow...

    Ropes in Ireby Fell Caverns

I've found out from the owner: The ropes currently rigged in Ireby are there for an ongoing diving project. People are welcome to use them at their own risk. But please note they will likely be removed in the next few weeks. I'll post here when they are removed.

Angel's Wing, Bull Pot of the Witches

Does anyone have a photo of the "Angel's Wing", in the chamber above the gour pools in Bull Pot of the Witches, that they could share with me?
