We are pleased to report that we have added some papers from Frank Butterfield's collection. Frank Butterfield was an early member of the British Speleological Society (BSA), and one of the original explorers of Oxford Pot in 1947 (now entered through County Pot), where he gave his name to Butterfield Passage.
The papers relate to the BSA, and are particular interesting as they show the strength of feeling of both the academic members and a large proportion of northern cavers against Eli Simpson in the immediate post-war years, and some of the failed political manoeuvrings designed to reduce Simpson's hold over the Association.
The papers were kindly donated by the Northern Pennine Club, and are held in the British Library premises in Glutton Bridge.
