. . . not forgetting of course that for a while there was once a third caving shop just down the road towards the A65 run by Brendan Brew.

Incidentally I have been a customer both of Bernies since I was a child and Inglesport since it first opened in the old chip shop. I can honestly say that they have both always been very good with me.

Younger cavers have always had good caving shops to turn to but there are some cavers around (NOT me I hasten to add!) who were active when there just weren't any caving shops selling specialised gear anywhere. So support both of the Ingleton institutions and be grateful they are there at all!

I find them both helpful and hope someone can take over Bernies as a going concern.

That's true, but we did have hardware shops to buy our candles, and tailors to buy our tweed jackets. Ropes we got from the agricultural merchants, and the wooden rungs we made ourselves.
