In the newsdesk, read a review of the underground events at Kendal Mountain Festival, plus tales of cannibalism and the Cavefish Asteroid.

In regional news, we have three new connections in Ogof Agen Allwedd, a report on the iron mines of Anjou, an extension to Big Sink Cave in the Forest of Dean, a new dig in Yorkshire's Marble Steps Pot, student parties, an obituary for Tony Boycott, a tight find in the Peak District and a discovery in County Kerry with extensive formations.

Birmingham student caving club

I will ask around tho ive not heard of anything
As a BUSS member in the years up until the club folded I can confirm we stored our tackle in the "mine" at the University. I am pretty sure it was emptied of anything of value but it would be worth checking.
Really happy to see the a new club starting up

A question for Josh as Y&D. Do BCA not give grants for start up equipment. Especially for reborn uni clubs etc.

We do, Kai and I had a call last night to discuss this. Obviously to set a club up totally from scratch is a huge outlay of kit, so I’m always on board with clubs begging, stealing and borrowing non-safety critical kit, meaning these grants/loans can be used to ensure harnesses/ropes are using BCA funds most effectively.

Kai is also approaching Birmingham student Union for funding as well, which will hopefully prove to be useful for finances.

We have that meeting tomorrow so hopefully we will know more then. We are going armed with a risk assessment and a constitution to show our preparedness as uni unions like to emphasise how dandrous caving is

If they start going on about caving being dangerous, ask them what the difference between dangerous and hazardous is - that's something I do if people say to me that mine exploring is dangerous. You can then point out that it is hazardous, and proper understanding of the hazards and acting accordingly stops them from becoming dangers.

Thank you i will use that. I also like to use the statistic more people die trad climbing than caving per year which tends to get people going oh. I also think that because it is a sport lots of people are unfamiliar with they actomaticly pressume it is dangrous
