British Fluorspar

This bit's hilarious - not least as I attended the Barmote Court two years running whilst they were at the 'peak' of the more recent working, and no royalties were declared for any liberty both times, despite us seeing the froth-flotation system separating galena from the fluorite on a site vist to CM. A few years before, a trifling amount was declared for one liberty, but it wasn't Hucklow. When I asked Jim Rieuwerts, who was on the Jury, how come there were no royalties when I knew galena was being extracted, he said I should have raised my hand and interrupted the proceedings, if I had 'information to the contrary'. Imagine the fuss that would have ensued if I'd known that - or the fuzz.
Following the vein can be fortuitous to landowners above no matter how deep the miners dig as royalties have to be paid. Every year a representative from Milldam attends the ancient Barmote Court in Wirksworth.

They probably would have tried to claim it was all coming out of Grindlow liberty, and so not declarable to the Wirksworth Barmote court...

And though this makes good trivia, (and you probably agree with me!) I have a suspicion it wasn't coming from Grindlow liberty.

Given where they were probably declaring their active workings (at least in 2020), as a poorly educated armchair miner, I'd say it's clear there was liability there.

Without going into too much detail, a certain landowner told me more than once that they owed him royalties too, as he owned the mineral righs under his land. Dunno whether they ever paid.

I wish Countryfile had archived that interview with PR, around the time of the Slater's Engine collapse, as it was a classic of obfuscation, broadcast without any supporting evidence and treated as fact by the producers, as they didn't offer any other explanation. PR was introduced to the viewer as 'the owner of the field', FFS.

Tell me more about the date/time of transmission - magic is possible sometimes, but waving wands is hard when you don't know precisely the date of the transmission. :)

It was December 2013 area. In the days of VHS, someone out there would have every episode in a fake leatherette hard case ;)

He could have raised a "Stop Notice" through the courts on the grounds of "Mineral Tresspass". Ref Countess of Lonsdale V Tesco 2010

BF had to the best of my knowledge negotiated mineral leases with all the landowners along the vein, but I believe what they didn't ever do was pay any of those owners mineral duties. Nick Williams will be able to give you chapter and verse on that...

There are several thousand tons of it in a pile less than a mile from where I am sitting. Drop me a PM with your 'proper' contact details and I'll see what we can do to help.
if you ever want to shift anymore of it i reckon it would look lovely in my collection 😅

Their finances don't look good:
I don’t really understand half of that sorry mate I’m quite simple with that sort of stuff never looked into it you reckon there pulling everything out to be sold? With them being in liquidation every penny counts or maybe even a debt collection team

Those figures are from before they closed, but having negative net assets every year (losing money) from 2012 to 2021, it looks like they were getting on top of it in 2018, but that debt increased during COVID & seems to have finished them off (the chart)

. Interesting video here of some urban explorers at Cav Mill. Guessing that the security guard they were hiding from has been appointed by the receiver to look after the assets while its being stripped?
