    An informative discussion

Recently there was long thread about the BCA. I can now post possible answers to some of the questions, such as "Why is the BCA still raising membership prices when there is a significant amount still left in its coffers?"

browns folly is now stupidly dangerous

The steel door at Browns folly has now been concreted shut muddy hole has been made so small and smeared with cow s$%t its stupid there are four locks and a bolt on shakespears gate and the passage away from there has been made a lot smaller.
If there was an accident in Browns folly now you've had it as there is no way out as the holes are to small for a body board IE back injury, cuts you would get infected by all the cow sh%t that's smeared round muddy hole and the steel door is definetly impassible.
Oh and also as said before on another thread the surveys that have been done over the years are now totally null and void totally useless as so many routes have been changed.

(This is from a trip down yesterday evening through a very small crawl that does not involve any of the rubbish I have mentioned )

It is a serious problem I think as it is going to cause a big problem to either the rescue people if something does happen the persons doing all this need to be calmed down or stopped as they are preventing safe access and exit which is not good at all .
I know I have had a whinge about this topic before but after my trip the other afternoon I think that something needs to be done before something goes seriously wrong there and it gets all the entrances filled in or even worse........

I am aware of the background behind all this and fear greatly that it will end in some kind of serious incident.

Its maybe best to just keep away and use Box for a while.

I went through muddy hole last week and there was no cow shit smeared around it then, just some dark mud. And it was bigger than its ever been in the last few years due to the fact persons unknown digging it out a few weeks ago.

Sounds like you had a good wander and look around.
How was the blue emulsion paint in square well, the broken ferret cage door and the turd left therein, or the fire residue inside shakespeares, the wall paper paste in the triple troughs or the posters that had been pasted up? What about the several bags of domestic garbage that had been brought in and scattered around - all extant on the 19th of September. Perhaps you didnt notice that, or maybe it had been cleaned up?

A pity we need litter fairies... but some things can just be cleaned away in an instant

I did not go near the square well etc so did not see around there just had a look at the steel door from inside which is now a smooth concrete wall saw all the new route changing walls that have been built  (why) and did the falls then looked at the old muck box and the crane remains had a sit down and natter at Clapham then went out and not through shitty hole.

That's the point he will not give anyone a key and only lets people he knows in to view his mine. Just really worried that things that he is doing will cause an even bigger problem than they have already .

Im ok with his graffitti cleaning, litter picking, shit shovelling and restorations. Shame some people want to trash the place and leave it like a sewer

The point I think you may be willfully missing is that Avon wildlife trust want shakespears locked, and if it was just swinging in the breeze, it would soon end up welded shut. AWT also wanted to weld shut iron door, but it was just walled off as a compromise. What I really can't understand is why you pour all this scorn onto the one person that is trying to preserve the history and keep the quarry as it should be, but have nothing to say about the spray paint, vandalism, shit being placed in ferret cage, litter, and fires being lit inside??

Indeed. Some people are shit-stirrers, some are shit-shovellers.

Fairly sure even if some entrances are not available and there may have been a wall or two built the place will not be "stupidly dangerous" certainly not in comparison to some other underground spots you could visit.

I am worried  about the safety aspect of what is being done at Browns Folly it is not just one or two walls get a survey and have a wander round some passages are missing totally!    The entrances should be accessible in case of emergency not blocked with concrete and four locks and a rather large bolt on shakespears ie padlocked or bolted shut but not made so small as muddy hole is or as said before concreted closed steel door nd somebody injured could definetly not be got out of the rift that I go in through .  At 99% of all the bath stone quarries that are accessible the entrances are large enough to get a casualty out of . They are not at Browns Folly.                                                              The AWT report from a few years ago said that H+S  have said nobody is to go into browns folly as it is classed as a grade 2 dangerous mine so could somebody enlighten me as to why they have a caretaker working in there all hours of the day and night
