Buildings Insurance

Does anybody have any recent experience of obtaining building insurance for a club hut at a reasonable price? I have already tried NFU and they are currently unwilling to even quote. Thanks in advance.

I'm involved in the running of a 30+ bedroom hostel in North Wales and (after a bit of searching!) the person who sorts insurance out found Zurich to be reasonable

It's a bit different from a club hut in that it's hired out for sole-use to the public, but probably close enough for to club huts use cases for an enquiry

Doesn't the BCA club policy cover you?

Thanks. I have just spoken to Zurich and as you say they are very helpful. I'll be interested to see what they come up with.

I'm given to understand that the BCA insurance doesn't cover buildings.
Correct. The insurance that comes with BCA membership is for Public Liability. It covers BCA itself, constituent bodies of BCA such as Regional Councils, clubs, access bodies, clubs, DIM and CIMs, for liability if they are sued for damages. It doesn't have any cover for direct losses.

The BCA's broker is Howden (without an 's', Howdens sell kitchens.), so they should have a good understanding of what a caving club hut is.
