Martin and I had another good session clearing out some of the rubbish in Carlswark last night.  We got it as far as the lower ledge in the Eyam Shaft.

If anyone could help me to haul it out of the shaft and kart it to the skip then please let me know by PM.  I?m available any day this BH weekend.

That's not half of it Mark!

It was a tad more strenuous than that. Various lumps of metal, including a complete car wheel (!), various bits of piping and old digging gear were removed from North West Passage, Dynamite Passage, Cockle Passage and Stalactite Passage. The rope in Stalactite passage between upper level and sump level was removed - another newer rope will be placed there soon.

I must say, its the first time I've been down there and I was rather impressed by some of the formations and passageways.

Hauling some of the tat through low passages was interesting as was the small hole between North West Passage and Cockle Passage!

Once again Mark dropped his hammer and had to go ferreting for it!

Total time underground was about 3 1/2 hours.

If you have a group going down or up Eyam Shaft, feel free to bring a bag to the surface and stack it by the entrance - we'll do the rest and put it in the skip.

MarkC and myself (and Mark's dog, Jake) paid yet another visit to Stoney M on the pretext of hauling up the accumalated rubbish placed at the bottom of Eyam Shaft.

In our stupidy, I forgot my furry, Mark had forgotten his oversuit, so he borrowed my oversuit and dropped down the shaft whilst I got the good job of hauling the stuff out.

With Jake's consistent, high pitched barking doing a good job of perforating my ear drums, and wanting his damn stick to be thrown, everything was on surafce by about 6.30pm, then loaded in the car and dumped in the skip.

Back home by 8.

Job done.  (y)

The skip is being collected today, but we will be organising another for the western side of the Dale in the near future.

Thanks to all those involved on a job well done!

Had another trip around Stoney Middleton with a school party last Saturday.

Met a couple of blokes coming out of the Gin entrance of Carlswark - apparently some more arrows have appeared around the stretch of cave between Noughts & Crosses and the Eyam Shaft.

The arrows are like this '-///->'. If you know who it is, tell them to stop it!  :spank:  It's naughty.

I will try to get up there next Thursday - 18th - for a cleaning session.

Myself and MarkC had a quick look into Carlswark last night.

Didn't actually see any of the aforementioned arrows, BUT there were scrawlings in the mud bank between Eyam shaft and Noughts and Crosses. They're not there now.

We were a bit concerned though, at the amount of mud that has been daubed on sides of passageways at about the places that arrows have been found before.

Has someone been trying to cover their tracks? Hmmmm...

I've had that a couple of times recently. I think that people are genuinely trying to be helpful but are maybe putting me onto stuff they have seen in the past and not since the last clean-up, I always forget to ask when they saw something. Please don't stop helping us out though!
Sorry I wasn't about last night but I've got a bit of the Man/Bird/Pig/T-Rex Flu.

Been out of the country lately,  ;) but am heading off to Merlin's Mine for a look with young sir.

No recent reports of any etchings in Carlswark, so I intend to have a quick shufty down the Gin Entrance to make sure.

Any news from you - Pete?

We've not been running caving sessions down there because of our 'Do It 4 Real' summer camp program. I've not been down myself for nearly a month now but I've not heard anything recently. Last trip I had was a through from the E D shaft to Gin and the cave looked quite tidy.

Probably is a good idea to have a look down the Gin at some point in the next week or so before we start using it again.
You'll have to let me know if anything needs doing. I've got a bit of time in Sept and have a few bits I'd like to look into round there so I'll be under and in the dale a bit.

Not a problem Pete.

Managed to get to Carlswark today with young son.

It was a bit like a motorway in there, passed 3 groups in the space of half hour! Spoke to Ralph Johnson - he had come down Eyam shaft and reported no grafitti up to O's & X's, so I went up to same - the water levels are quite low in Carlswark at the mo.

Met Aiden from Hollowford on the way out - he hasn't seen any grafitti recently either.

So for once, Carlswark looks pretty good with no etchings and I saw no discarded rubbish either!  (y)

Had a quick look into Resurgence afterwards - still as dank and muddy in there as normal!

I've been down Carlswark a couple of times over the last month and was commenting both times with friends on how clean the cave is looking at the moment and what a great job has been done with the clean up, i'll certainly be doing my bit to keep it in the same condition..

Cheers

Matt
