I have terrible problems keeping my camera dry and safe when underground, and i have come across this.

Waterproof Case

Are they any good or is there a more simple solution out there.

Peli Cases are fantastic.
Available form lots of places. Hitch'n'Hike for one.
Other options involve Ammo cans lined with karrimat.
Darren drums

I do believe Pelis are good, but I've never tried them.

I use a darren drum, with a karrimat(or similar) lining.. Its done its job for quite a while now..
Not sure on size but its not overly big and holds digital camera, 2 slaves, 2 flashes, mini-tripod and a few spare batteries..

Peli cases are the business - I bought one when we were digging a lot in Bagshawe in order to record the dig. They are super-tough, will float and are easy to clean after you've been underground.

I used mine for months in a muddy, scrapey environment and it kept the cameras safe and sound. We also took it through Croesor where it would happily float across the lakes with us.

Expensive but money well spent imho. I got mine at H & H. I got a yellow one which I recommend for maximum visibility in mucky caves.

Pelican also claim that if you *ever* break the case, they will replace it.

Thanks guys, you have convinced me, i will now part with my cash and
purchase one.

Any suggestions on which model, to take a Fuji Finepix S5500 with a mini tripod / some batteries and maybe a Marsbar.

Cheers

Hey Stu.

I have a Pelican 1150 that holds a compact camera, a slave flash, it's cord, and would have room for batteries if I carried them. Just make sure that you keep the seals clean after trips. I used to carry an ammo box underground... they're indestructable, but exceedingly heavy. I bought mine straight from the company in the USA.

Happy snappin'

My new Peli arrived today, and i opted for the 1400 in yellow, like Bubba said and blimey  i don't think i'll ever loose it.

And what a piece of kit, seems bomb proof.

Cut the foam away and my camera etc fits just right.

Very happy.

On the advice of this thread I got one today too! I got a yellow 1150 myself - very much looking forward to testing it out.

Used my new Peli case this evening down Swildon's and the verdict is:

BLOODY EXCELLENT....... :D

Easy to carry, 100% waterproof, and it took a right battering.

Now i don't pretend to be a David Baily, and i love point and click photography, so don't laugh at the photo's i took

Nice Pics :)

I need to get a case for carrying keys / spare batteries. Has anyone tried the OtterBoxes here? May just get a Peli Case though as they do sound quite good.

I've got an Otter Opod (ipod case) and it's very nicely made but not sure what their larger cases are like.

I have otter boxes for my Ipaq. they have a cunning recessed soft bit on the front that means you can still write on the screen

For my keys i have one of these Aqua Pac cases, because they are flexible they don't stick in your ribs or other painful parts

Very good, very waterproof, and they float !!!

I've got a £2 Lock & Lock box for my iPod complete with a bit of foam. Bunged it in a Daren drum and it was good down Hard Rock and back.

If anyone is looking for cheap drums look for Wide Neck Kegs at http://webshop.keyind.co.uk/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/KEY/en_GB/-/

Also if you using a pod away then the Belkin battery pack is good to drive the thing for a week on a set of AA.

Thats cheap

hitch and hike 6 liter darren drum ..

= £10.95

From Key - £5.12 - dont know if that includes VAT or not. even so it would be £6.02 inclusive of vat.

Good spot

If anyone's reading this and has a spare lid for one of these then PM me.(unlikely I know but you may have trashed a drum but the lids still OK)

Word of warning - leave your Pelicase open between trips... the seals get compressed over time if you leave them closed. My leaked down Aquamole Pot last week and it was barely submerged.
