Cave Photography Workshop

A couple of Sunday's ago I held a cave photography workshop at Poole's Cavern in Buxton, Derbyshire. It was well attended and the feedback was great!

The whole day was dedicated to teaching the participants the basic skills and techniques that you need to make a photograph underground in a cave environment. We spent the morning looking over equipment, photographic techniques and what makes a good and bad photograph. After lunch we headed into the cave to practice our new skills. I was on hand to offer advice and the participants helped each other with modeling and lighting. We ended the day by looking over everyone?s photographs, or at least those that were willing, and offered advice for improvement in the future.

However, since the 15th May, quite a few people have approached me and said how they would loved to have come along if they new sooner.

I?d be keen to know if there is interest for me to do another one of these, perhaps somewhere else in the country? In your caving area, in caves you are more familiar with?

Look forward to seeing your responses.

I'm definitely interested - haven't quite got around to taking the camera underground yet. Preference would be Peak but if it were during a weekend, with enough notice, then anywhere would work as it's be worth travelling.

I was on this course and it was awesome, and if you did another one Rob I would probably come along to that one as well.

Thanks guys for all your responses
With that, at some point during the summer, I am considering running three workshops: :D

one in the Dales
one on Mendip or South Wales ...any preferences?
one in Derbyshire

For the course in the Dales, I have already been approached by White Scar cave who are also keen to hold something like this.
The cave would be an ideal location, with a possible 'wild caving' trip that follows the day after if people are interested or not completely happy learning their techniques in a show cave ...any preferences with 'show cave' or 'general cave'?

I am not all that familiar with suitable caves for the Mendip or South Wales workshop ...so again, any ideas feel free to comment? Please bare in mind that some sort of room with power generally helps with a workshop.

Derbyshire was successful in Poole's Cavern, but we also have many other locations if there is a desire to be away from the 'show cave' environment?

Just let me know.

Would love a Wales weekend

How about accommodation at SWCC with the benefit of OFD on the doorstep?

I had no idea about the recent workshop either, so would love to do the next Derbyshire one - I had a (very) brief chat with you in the bar at HE last year which turned out to be very useful long-term, so would be keen to learn some more advanced techniques - especially on how to cleanly photograph within bedding planes! ;)

Cheers

As promised here are the dates for the two forthcoming cave photography workshops ...sorry Mendip/SW cavers without cars. Not enough interest  :(

Poole's Cavern, Buxton, Derbyshire - Sunday 28th August (9am-5pm)
White Scar, Yorkshire Dales - Sunday 4th September (9am-5pm)

More info here: http://www.shonephotography.com/2011/07/cave-photography-workshop/

If you are interested, please get in touch to reserve a place as I have put a cap of twelve participants per workshop.

Thanks,  (y)

Would you be doing any later in the year? late Sept or Oct or something? If I can come this year it will likely be for 2-3 weeks (basically 2 wks but all 3 weekends) around Hidden Earth time.
