Cored rope in Rowter hole

A group of us did Rowter hole on Sunday and noticed that on the in-situ rope there was quite a lot of bad rope rub, and then noticed that it was cored. As we went up the rope it became significantly worse (before we were able to isolate it) a section of now around 15-20cm of it is cored. We have isolated the cored bit of rope, however the rope needs replacing, not sure who is responsible for this.

This occurred on the pitch just before you get to the ice cream trail.

Hi, before the ICT on the way in? i.e. the last of the down pitches before the sump?
No one is responsible for those ropes- they are of unknown origin, age or condition and it would be my advice that people should avoid using them, or planing trips that rely on them.

can you clarify where it was exactly?the near side of the ICT? we are going back there soon so can take it out.

Great, thank you! we will remove when were next there. If you look closely, most of the maillons are half worn through too!

The rope in question has now been de- rigged. The damage was almost certainly caused by missing out the deviation at the very bottom of the last pitch. It's in the left hand wall about 4m from the floor and is an essential bit of rigging.
