but at least it was my shoulder and not my head, which landed about three micro seconds later.

Good heavens, it sounds terrible, what happened, were you negotiating some really difficult mountain bike course, or did you have a bad landing paragliding, or did you slip on your boat whilst diving, or did you fall during one of your epic underground climbs, do let us know  ;)

?? You're in Thailand..... and you want to go digging in Pindale cave??  I've been in Pindale Cave, and I've been to Thailand....  I should stay where you are.  It's current;y 4'C here and chucking it down, and Pindale cave is full of mud.

hehe. As much as I'd like to stay in Thailand my bank balance unfortunately doesn't; I've gotta come back to work :( and need something to look forward too.  ;)

Very sound advice.... I shall try to remember that.

Hello Mr SLP. I joined you in the sickbay yesterday by breaking a finger. Fancy a weekend doing laps of the Daren Cilau entrance crawl which apparently only needs one arm if you lie on your side?

Unfortunately the Lake had returned today so digging for those at the sharp end was rather grim  :yucky:

A lot of clearing out was done however and the conveyor belting moved forwards. More rocks await us on Wednesday if the weather dries up a bit which it should do.

The draught was still slightly outwards today (proved with a joss stick) which was encouraging given the temperature outside. It probably means it's breathing from a deeper cavity. If it had been blowing inwards then we were almost certainly going to be heading for a shaft on the Rake.

Exited to immense snow! Yippee but a grim grade V change at Pindale Head. Crookes is currently a winter wonderland..... ;)

My first post so forgive me if I make any mistake.
When I was in Derbyshire (many years ago!) I dug Black Rabbit cave and made quite an extension but don't think I wrote up the find  :chair: Just after the second squeeze there is a stall grotto to the right. I entered a bedding here. Realy pretty and pushed it quite some way through three really tight squeezes especially the last. Amazing looking back that I used to solo dig it  Finally I was struggling to chisel the floor to get through to a small sit up chamber. Invited Richard Gibson to come along with me and he got through and said way on would require digging. Dig abandoned and never recovered my tools. The interesting thing it was heading up the dale parallel with Pindale cave. May be worth you checking it out.

Was in there on Friday and we had a pop up this bedding. Pretty sure it's the continuation of the main passage. Saw where you had chiseled the floor and got to that chamber. A hammer, crowbar and a rope, right? From there it continued about 7m to a boulder restriction, wouldn't need much effort to move and the passage is certainly continuing past. All very small though, kept cursing the hole in the arse of my oversuit as it kept catching on protrusions in the roof.

An interesting one for sure, shame there was no draught or i might have been interested...

That mean that the syphon system doesn't work? If so, using a hand pump would shift that in about 10-15 mins; a good way for the surface worker to keep warm.

the syphon had indeed failed. might have had something to do with the kink and hole in the hosepipe.
except that when sucking the downhill end, did get a good hard vacuum which did persist.
have offered Dan my stock of Sam T's 19mm firehose. a pump with fittings might be nice as i don't really fancy messing around in 6 inches of water again.

The tools must have been in a state after 20 years. If the boulder restriction would not require much effort is it not worth 1 or 2 goes at it all be it with a suit without holes ;)

So much to do - story of my life at present. In Frog pot we have an amazing dig heading towards Goyden, a bedding with vocal connection with New Goyden but too narrow, two unclimbed avens, a choke with a strong draught suggesting passage beyond and an inlet all need pushing. The there is the Manchester-Goyden connection to sort out and ....  ..I better get on with it.

Sounds better then most valentine day plans,

We could go to a restaurant and have a nice meal surrounded lots and lots of soppy couples.

Or we could go digging....

Know what I'd prefer everytime

Ok, time for an update,

Dig is currently going steadily, we have removed the problem of the Lake by trenching out the floor. Water now sinks away about half way along the passage. This means that although the end is muddy (!) it is easy to work in. Several big rocks have been removed and there is a steady outward draught, progress is steadily forwards following the airspace. We are digging the crawl out to hands and knees size to keep it roomy. The conveyor belting was fetched out and completely re-layed. Buckets can now be pulled out to the entrance from the dig face with relative ease. The frog is still in residence......

Dan.
