Generally get a block booking for something that will be filmed sometime during that period, so they can allow for weather / other scenes etc. Unless they have turned it into an outdoor studio...

I reckon it's more likely to be a giant manufacturing operation disguised as an ITV crime drama. I mean, how long does it take to film one scene? Four weeks?!

I once performed in a promotional film for a mining company. It took three solid days to make. The running time was twelve minutes. I was told this was a good rate of production!

Yes, there is an immense amount of faff involved in filming stuff - having been an extra on a few things, I know from experience most of the time on set you'll be sat around waiting, though on everything I was on the food was really good!

A friend of mine has made a very good career out of set-building and general labouring for endless crime drama series like Violent Shitness. I think they were on about Series #79 at lockdown, and he has a nice house on the south coast already, so maybe coronavirus does bring some benefits.

I didn't think that there was any point in starting a new thread. The quarry is once again being used as a film set. No idea how long or for what, but consider access to the quarry shut until you hear otherwise.

More to do with the filming that went on in Darlton quarry recently for the new Mission not so impossible film perhaps?

Def game of thrones.

Keep seeing castleton and the hope valley on the box all the time. Channel 4 ident, Feel good travel advert, Game of thrones, mission impossible... Its clearly on the map.

Not sure why but it bugs me.  Seems like the cats out the bag.  Thanks to various Weekend supplement articles with Hathersage being in the top ten 'hidden' gems, you now can't buy a house there for love nor money, unless you can compete with ex surgeons from london who've just sold their two up two down in Richmond for 1.5 million and can afford to pay anything they want.

The place is a bloody nightmare in the daytime - motorbikes riding through constantly all day long (and I mean constantly), cars clogging up Winnats in both directions as they can't handle the inclination, and tourists just wandering around the village all dazed like they don't know why they're there. I just keep my head down and try to stay inside the safety of the Chapel as much as possible. I was trying to chat to some guests in the garden yesterday at 5pm, and we literally could not hear each other because of the motorbikes revving past constantly and the stink of diesel fumes was all-pervading. I'm really not exaggerating, its horrible. I can only assume the permanent residents are on so many tranquilisers they don't notice any more.

For what it's worth, I provisionally offered my services to work for two days on this shoot after they put out requests at the DCRO collection a few weeks ago, but the only infomation I received from them was that it would 'probably' start at 6am. My questions about food, finish times, PPE requirements and supply of bank details for payment were all ignored, which seemed odd for a film company desperate for workers. As the 6am start eventually wasn't clarified either, it seemed pointless to continue, and they have still not replied. Not sure who they did hire in the end but I hope they survived.

As for moving to the Peak District, you get arguably equally beautiful scenery and far cheaper prices out toward Oughtibridge or Stocksbridge, but you may have to live near people who actually leave the house more than just Sunday morning, and they might still have a local accent, so watch out!

It used to get pretty busy in the late 70's early 80's when people could still go to the pub and drive home.  The internet or gaming hadn't been invented, so folks would head out to Castleton to go to the caverns..  Huge queues outside all the caverns.  Chaos on the roads etc. queues stretching all the way to Hope. Its nothing new.  Its just that covid and lack of international travel has meant a hark back to those times.

But somehow its different now.. instagram plays its part.  Bamford edge is now a 'must see' destination insta photo op and there is a near constant precession of folks traipsing up from bamford just to have their photo taken with ladybower in the background and traipsing back down again looking like adverts for JD sports (think perfectly white, box fresh trainers - on the way up at least)

Not that I've ever been somewhere abroad and had my photo taken at a beauty spot.  :-[

I've been spending quite a bit of time lately trying to find alternative spots, especially quarries, where folks might not be. Again, Wharncliffe Edge and the nearby slopes are usually pretty quiet - and that may be because they're not featuring so much on Instagram - I wouldn't know. And I can cope with lots of folks walking, just about, but it's the volume of goddam vehicles that's ruining it, especially when motorcyclists enjoy making the loudest noise possible. I have the same problem at home with the 'Highfield Hot Rod Crew', who seem to believe they're on the Sunset Strip in a 1950s movie rather than racing past kebab shops for 50m all night, which is the reality.

We used to drive out as a family to Castleton when we were kids, but there were never this many vehicles - and most now are driving through, rather than stopping. They're 'out on a drive'. Edale is virtually silent by comparison as there's no through route. I'd go there far more often, but there's no caves!

No - at least not last Sunday.

We were discussing a visit on Sunday next (12/09/21) and we have one huge GoT fan in the party. Therefore will the film crew be there on Sunday?

No idea - I can only tell you if the warning signs approaching the quarry entrance are still there if I go past, which I did last Sunday

Ah, but they'll have to get the train. Covid alert! The buses were almost completely empty last weekend, as they always are now. I used to fight to get on it - now I can pick my seat with ease. Castleton is still packed, which means they're all driving there now.

Jesus wept.. what is happening to us a society, as a species.. we really are fucked aren't we.

First picture is of Thirlmere - which isn't even on the pennine way...which gets rated 4.5 on Trip Advisor.

Who on earth rates the pennine way on trip advisor.. "Would give this trail 5 stars but not enough cafes'
