Only got mentioned once or twiceI’ve done the camera memory card thing on a trip with @badger into Hagg Gill Pot. Having previously tried to find the cave with Paul Dold (and failed), we returned and after setting up various flashes and camera on tripod tried to take a picture to get the warning of ‘no memory card inserted’ - cue multiple years of pisstaking
This is definitely the forgotten item with the most peril story! On a Berger trip i left camp one on my own to go to camp two with a rucksack full of rope, ladders with the rigging equipment required for the descent to the bottom.
Half way down the Grand Cascade my carbide light went out.
After fettling it i realised that it had ran out of carbide and that it required a refill. I reached for my spare on my harness, to my horror it wasnt there. Knowing that another team would be following me, i sat in the darkness in a wet, wetsuit for eight hours. When I was located l had mild hypothermia, but did continue onto camp two after having a brew.
This was the first trip that I thought of when seeing this thread. It was overnight (I think we were trying to escape exam revision?), so drove down in the evening, got underground a bit before midnight, did Hensler’s crawl and Mud Hall to main chamber, and were out in time for sunrise and breakfast once back in Clapham. Stands out weirdly clearly in my memory - must have been a really excellent trip despite the faff 😉 (but then, I wasn’t the one with the two left wellies …)Reminds me of a university club trip to Disappointment Pot once, when I forgot that the two others didn't have their own SRT kits yet...
We managed to get to the bottom, on a shared SRT kit, with Pantin and Tibloc as a sort of half kit to aid passing bits up and down. The last pitch was hardest, but rigging the rebelay carefully gave enough slack to pull up the lower rope from the ledge.
Same trip, one of the guys was using club wellies and got two left wellies...
I think it was post-exam celebration, but yes, it was an excellent trip! It was my first time down Disappointment and I didn't know exactly where it came into the system, so when I recognised where we were, and we got in a loop at the bottom, that really made the trip! This was the first trip that I thought of when seeing this thread.
