Just a thought...they probably think the route is marked for them

I don't think that'll be a problem tbh, it's very hard to get lost in Giants. In any case, all of the arrows were on the main route from the entrance to garlands, most in the passage where there are literally no turn offs lol

It is funny. Daylight or fall to your death are the only options. How hard can it be? Actually, let's hope they don't look upwards near the entrance  :cautious:

More graffiti in Giant's was reported last night. DCA are aware and we'll take steps to remove it. Thankfully it is not as much as last time. We are also considering what further action can be taken as the anti-social & criminal behaviour encountered at Giant's is now a weekly occurrence.

Movement Sensor cameras?
Then daily bombardment of police until they prosecute?

or invite culprits on a caving trip further in.

Put up a large white sheet for them to paint (I know that won't work

Education of the perpetrators, which as a side benefit will teach them the meaning of the word "suppository"...

I have been speaking to the Derbyshire Rural Crime Team this morning and hope to arrange a meeting with them. For now they have asked that cavers report these incidents to Derbyshire Constabulary either by using 101 or by online reporting through their website (https://www.derbyshire.police.uk/) using the report button.

There's probably a suitable stalagmite somewhere.

Firecrackers are much more effective - and fun!

More graffiti and anti-social behaviour was reported in Giant's Hole over the weekend by cavers. The paint has been removed today and DCA also took the opportunity to meet someone from the Derbyshire Rural Crime Team over at the cave. They will raise the issue with the local Police teams and hopefully we might see the occasional Police vehicle popping down to the car park as a deterrent. DCA are also speaking to the landowner and tenant about any other steps they wish to take.

Most 'non-caver' groups encountered here recently have been simply curious and not causing any harm. These people are best met with a polite bit of advice about correct equipment or joining a club / hiring an instructor. Please be an ambassador for the sport if you encounter such groups and remember many of us started out caving in poor equipment and with little experience.
However, cavers that do encounter criminal or anti-social behaviour, or the aftermath of it, created by the minority of visitors, should report it to the Police.

If a serious crime is taking place currently, or there is an emergency or risk to yourself or others, call 999 immediately.
Other crimes can be reported via 101 or on the Derbyshire Police website: https://www.derbyshire.police.uk/.
The Derbyshire Rural Crime Team also suggested it was fine reporting issues to them directly via a message to their Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/ruralcrimeteam

DCA have no intention of becoming the cave police or private security here, however we have chosen to speak to the Police after this last incident because of the growing problem at this site. The cave is within a SSSI and our members have been regularly contacting us to ask if something can be done.

Pete Knight, on behalf of the DCA.

I can't tell, but on the first two - have they sprayed yellow paint, then red arrow on top. or is that a beam from a head light.

Either which way,  o_O

I have a solution to the Giants problem, we just need to set the detectors on these babies to trigger if someone wearing a baseball cap back-to-front  or using  their mobile phone as a torch comes into range. I'm working on an automated clean-up system to go with it...

The thing is, if they were so impressed by what they saw, why did they think it was acceptable to just dump their rubbish?

That's the same as people that go to a beauty spot for a picnic and leave the rubbish , it REALY p**sses me off  o_O
