yeah we did, we got some advice from inglesport before we left, they said to keep left then look up at a load of boulders, apart from the crawl it was a genuinely good cave one that novices can do pretty well!

We did notice before we went into the cave that there was a small laddered hole with a grate over it, after looking at NC2 is this Great Douk Pot?

Hi Danny, What you saw is a dig which is in the bottom of the massive collapsed shakehole just before you climb up to enter Great Douk Cave. This has been going on for a number of years, hoping to find the continuation of the stream which emerges from Great Douk Cave. There is huge potential for lot more passages to be discovered but a huge amount of digging is required. In theory, there could be something similar to Meregill Hole under all that collapsed material (probably without the mere) which then goes down towards the floor of Chapel le Dale  :-\

Great Douk Pot (I think I'm correct) can be found by entering Great Douk Cave then after about 50m ish if you look up, daylight can be seen. This is Great Douk Pot. I know Great Douk Cave is only grade 1 in NC but I allways enjoy a stomp up through the system!

Glad you enjoyed it  (y)

What Danny saw was Great Douk Pot (which is, as you say, a dig). What you have described is Little Douk Pot.

As has already been said yes it is. Bit different to Great Douk Cave though! Going on memory you climb down the shaft which enters a crawl, not overly spacious and perhaps 50m long, this arrives at a short pitch into a reasonable chamber with a further scaffolded shaft in the floor - and there's not much beyond that.

Are there any expeditions going to Greak Douk, now the cold weather is mainly away?  I would require a lift from SE Northumberland, or NEwcastle Upon Tyne, willing to pay a decent price for the lift, your petrol, then same again OK?
