You probably know this already; The 'go compare' site of schools is http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/search for the numbers of pupils at the various schools - you can plug in a postcode and a radius in miles.

Thanks for that, I didn't know.
However, when I tried it out it only found the schools I already know about...  :-\
A useful tool though.

we should alternate between Brighton and Blackpool! the locals would be used to noise and alcohol, and going on the funny looks i get when i turn up at hidden earth with a muddy face, the lack of caving wouldn't be missed by many people  ;)

i am very glad i don't have Les's job, it must be a bloody nightmare and us lot cannot help by being sociable and not liking doing what we are told. Wherever he finds, i am sure it will be worth the drive  ;)

Brighton sounds like a good idea just down the road from me,  :tease:

We thought Kirby Lonsdale school would be OK but the Governors won't allow any alcohol on site, still I don't suppose that will cause too many problems...  :-\

What would the redundancy package be?

You don't get off that easy...  :spank:

Do they have a 1000+ pupil secondary school?

I was meaning Craven college btw.

Not sure your living room would be large enough on its own, might need the kitchen and the bedroom as well. Oh, and the garage and garden shed...

Well sorry I can't accomondate you on the account of not having a garage.

Generally speaking, the universities have priced themselves above our budget.
ALso, really looking for something further south than Penrith if possible.
I now have three potential venues to vist but if they aren't suitable then I will look further afield and certainly give Penrith consideration.

Was the location near M6 J17 I told you about an option?

Sorry, completely forgot you told me.
Ideally I would prefer a venue north of Manchester somewhere near the Dales but as above, if the current venues are no good then I will be getting in touch.

I should know within a week or so, hopefully.

You previously used Harper Adams nr Newport, it is a university campus but as i understand is pretty reasonable there are also some school sites in the area that could offer whats needed

Does that also apply to the former polytechnics, teacher training colleges etc?

But that was back when Hiden Earth was held at University sites. In fact I believe that was before it was even branded as Hidden Earth.
The success that is Hidden Earth came about when we stopped using those city type university campuses and moved to rural school sites that allowed onsite camping and were about half the cost.

I maybe able to offer a venue about 15 mins from jct 15 m6? All in the name of networking and good causes.

I haven't looked at any sites south of Manchester/Leeds as this year Hidden Earth is supposed to be Ooop Norf in the Dales (or near by).
If I fail to find a suitable location I will look further South but in the meantime I do have three possible sites in or very near the Dales, so I am still hoping one of them will be suitable...
...if not then I will be in touch...

Kay,
The main criteria are that:
1. It is in the area we wish to go to
2. It is within our price range.
3. It has the necessary facilities (including onsite or nearby camping)
4. Alcohol is permitted on site (we run our own bar...)

If any of the sites you suggested are suitable then we will give them consideration.
Did you have any former polytechnics, teacher training colleges etc. in mind?

I have to say, Les, that your forbearance in entering into the debate in this thread is admirable.

Good luck with finding a venue.

Well done les for organization. I'm sure you're fed up of us going over stuff you've tried but what about morecambe?  Seem to reme
mber a big college between Lancaster and morecambe. And the locals would be used to rowdy behavior!
