Seem to recall a thread not too long ago about the merits of different methods of taping?

taping wise whilst fishing line is discrete i think its important not to end up installing trip wires through the cave tape is to a certain extent meant to be seen :p

It will be, from a few feet away, it almost glows. No-one will miss that stuff unless they are wandering around with their eyes shut, in which case all bets are off.

Ah fair enough then  :)

A year or more ago I offered Mendip cavers a huge coil of stainless steel wire (about 2.5mm dia) for making stand-off tape supports. Despite chasing never got a reply.  :(

I will follow up again and try and find out whether the sample we provided was any good. Ali M?

Maj.

Laurie/Dave - very sorry, I didn't realize that I should have fed back info. We decided that the sample of wire was too flexible. It needs to be as rigid as possible to make successful Pigtail Risers.
(The ones that Les W had made for Reservoir were excellent).

CSCC has a stock of these for use on Mendip, and once exhausted we can have more made, as we have a man with a jig...

Thanks for letting me know guys.
Anyone else got a use for it before it goes to the scrappy?

Do you know what grade of stainless it is? It might be suitable welding filler rod for when I get round to making a new ladder for Surprise View.

If you can get it to the Wessex HQ I will be able to get it by some means or other.

A little bit of the progress so far... several trips of cleaning stal, finding jigsaw pieces, lining them up and starting to put it all back together. Superglue and activator seem to be working well so far and is slow progress, but hoping to get as many as possible of the stals reconnected to where they came from in the coming weeks. First photo showing the line up and the second one a couple of the stals partially repaired.

One plea to all the photographers who've taken photos in HLIS - my before photos are quite old and not necessarily enough of the right areas with enough detail so could anyone with photos of the lower section of Happy Hour Highway and the formations please link me in the right direction if they are online or message me and i'll let you have my email to send some too. It will help greatly with the reconstruction. Many thanks in advance. :)

Hi Estelle,

Thank you and who ever is helping you for repairing these formations.

Shocking news that the damage was done in the first place, however heartening news that cavers are trying their best to put it right, Pegasus

Some good photo's there Tim. I know they will be useful.. Doesn't look anything like that now and it also looks like a lot have gone missing before the recent vandalism!

there's some after shots earlier in the thread.
Many thanks both, Tim's photos in particular look like they will be really useful as they are of exactly the stals that are no more.
