If you're not in a club, you're not a bona fide caver!

Would you like a list of  "bona fide cavers" who have taken a genuine interest at some time in the "silly mines" in Surrey? I'll start with Martyn Farr..... Somewhere, I even think I have a photo of Mr Norton perilously close to one of the entrances.

I'll add my name: did one of the silly mines in Sussex in about 1988, the one that goes under the motorway and has an entrance pitch and some pretty formations.  I think I did it with Peter but we've yet to establish this.  It's a good, interesting trip, but it probably wouldn't appeal to anyone with a limited outlook.

I think you'll find that it's 'Sir Christopher' actually.

Bumped into him a few months ago whilst he was walking the dog
Asked him if he wanted to come for a 'jolly' down the silly mines at the back of his house?
He declined politely, saying he was meeting his mate to go climbing that afternoon.
Climbing? Do you do a bit like? we said.

It's even better if you go the other way and it's a long trip to the bitter end. I did it with Peter and a mate from work. We spent a few hours shovelling rocks back into position where an earlier dig had displaced them too. All good fun  (y)

I think you need to actually cave real caves not just silly mines in Surrey.

Is this not proof of a much lower intelligence pretending to know what he is talking about?
I do prefer caves to mines but I believe that vast majority of cavers including myself enjoy the odd trip down a mine. Some are certainly as challenging as caves and in my opinion quite a few are vastly more dangerous.
Mick, you really are talking bollocks just because you don't like Peter and enjoy winding him up.
A few people on Mendip tell me you are a nice guy. I find that hard to believe. I know that people's personalities are different online (most probably think that I'm a whinger who thinks everyone should be nice to each other) but you seem very vindictive and sad.
You are so old that I would have thought you would have grown up by now.

Is this just a silly mine? (ok, it's not in Surrey)

A thing of beauty with quite a few big pitches to get there.

Take a jest in a humourous way maybe?
Personally, I like both caves and mines - including those in Surrey that PB has shown me. The old debate of one vs the other was (is) always one of wind up and jest for the most part, with only a few extremists taking things too seriously... ::) :)

And in Derbyshire many caves also have mined sections and many mines have natural cave as well...

A few years ago we went through some flooded coffin levels, quite scarry,
ended up sucking the roof for air, so backed out, sorry can't remember what it was called.

Hi Brains. Yes, I do normally take jests humourously but.......................

Peter Burgess
Be grateful I am not running HE - seriously - from the number of angry comments I heard on Sunday morning, I suggest this disturbance is likely to put people off attending in future, or at least finding off-site accommodation. All I can say is there are some VERY tolerant people in the caving world. Those who could be identified as p1ssing others off like this would be on my blacklist. It's the sort of thing that would get them thrown off an external campsite so what makes it acceptable when the venue is privately arranged? Mind you, I wasn't there to witness what allegedly happened, and only have the comments of others to go by. Perhaps they were imagining it all. I hope there are other campsites close by at Leek - at least we will have the choice to distance ourselves from all the cr4p.

What an arsehole.
Listen Bergess If you were running ANYTHING
I would not attend.

Hehe, good point, well made!
In my defense I was only thinking of the silly mines comment.
It would seem some ruffling of feathers and disjointing of noses may have occured. As I am not in the firing line (yet) I can smirk from the sidelines and watch others hoist themselves by thier petards.
Now, can I mix in some more metaphors?
