Did anyone win the award, then?

Go along and see, it's back on the wall with the winner's details engraved on it.

I also agree with John and Duncan, a better distribution of furniture & it wouldn't have been an issue.

Hadn't you guessed from The Old Ruminator's 10,000 photos? I thought you were being ironic.

It was a genuine question! I knew Reservoir Hole would be in the running, but I didn't know what other likely candidates there were in Scotland or Mendip.

I'm pretty sure the Old Ruminator just keeps reposting the same 20 pictures over and over again doesn't he? I stopped looking at that thread a while ago (and the Wezzits :p).

If it is actually true that Reservoir Hole is the JRat winner, can we be told who the runners were?

Everybody on Mendip & in Scotland who was digging, found & surveyed something & told Martin and/or Mac. I don't think they kept a formal list.

Damn. I have been found out.

As usual I heard a couple of moans. Like everything you just cant win 'em all. Somebody actually posted that the evening was dull so he went to the bar. I think Rhys is a bit tongue in cheek so no offence. You can only do your best and people with genuine criticism should seek to put things right with positive suggestions or help.

No criticism from me, Nick. I found the presentation to be fine, even though I did already know how the story finished.

That's less than half the winning amount of cave, although probably the most impressive bit. Firstly a big plug for Leica who very kindly lent a ridiculously expensive piece of kit so that that awesome scan could be done. Secondly, the video quality there has been reduced somewhat, so that running it doesn't slow the internet to a crawl. The original is much finer resolution, but the file is 350 Mb even when zipped.

That's a bit lame - a results table would have been interesting..(and appropriate for a surveying competition?)

I dont think that the essence of the thing was ever meant to be a strict competition. I dont even think folk expected it to last four years. It was started as a tribute to J'Rat and only two basic rules applied. The passage had to be found and surveyed in the same year Oct - Oct. People are now talking of runners up, subsidiary awards , calibrated lists of entries and whatever. It was all meant to be a bit of fun and a piss up and something true to the nature of J'Rat himself. The two " judges " are two of Mendip's most trusted cavers and their decision was final. As it was I don't think there was any  other group even close to the eventual winners. Yes. A bit of fun. Not The Oscars or Crufts. Lets keep it that way.

I'm not sure how keeping a list of all the entries - cave and distance - takes away any fun.
Jrat kept meticulous records in his logbooks AND managed a piss-up.

Actually I think the " judges " are very meticulous but hopeless at piss ups though one does run the occasional bar.

Lucky he doesn't go on the forum Nick!
