li-ion battery

Hi,
I have just bought a Canon digital camera with a lithium battery. I have been out to play with it on (not under) Mendip
for the first time today and was wondering if anyone could advise me if the battery should be removed if I am not going to be using the camera again for a week or two ? I know the procedure with AA batteries is generally to take them out, but I have no experience of the Li-ion type.    Thanks.

I would leave it in. If you take it out, then it will have to rely on some other means to retain it's settings.

My Canon Digital only has the battery removed to charge it...
I wouldn't worry about it as it's different to dry cells such as alkaline cells. I don't believe LiONs leak, which is the reason for removal.
Is it an SLR?
I think the settings are retained if the battery is removed by a secondary battery that keeps the memory going (but may be wrong here)

Either way, I don't remove the battery from mine for weeks (months) at a time.

Best left in as general rule.  I've left them in cameras for months with no ill effect. Genuine batteries typically also have circuits to prevent overcharge / discharge.  If a Li-Ion does leak then trouble is likely to ensue of a fiery / explosive nature.  Also shorting a Li-Ion can lead to claiming for fire damage on insurance, so another reason to leave in.  As other posts have mentioned the battery helps preserve date settings etc. as they only last a limited time with battery removed.
Defo check the manual though if not using camera for a raster long time.
