Mam Tor Engine shaft

I agree with Goyden man - mam engine has to be worth a look, but its in such a popular/busy/obvious place that leaving the shaft top open in daylight hours/the weekend is probably a no goer.  Winter nights dig would probably be OK though.

Should be worth checking the state of the lid / clearing it off so if needed repairs could be done before winter, maybe install an inner grill for safety or ventilation holes to improve the air down there. With luck there will be plenty of spare scaffold and planks left from the Eldon Hole streamway exploration that will be complete by winter...
