Fifty years ago this month I was the most experienced member of the college caving club at Matlock College of Education so it fell on me to introduce fresher students to our pastime.
On freshers night a young lady approached the caving stand and expressed a wish to try the sport so she was duly enrolled.
Over time she exhibited enthusiasm and ability and I introduced her to my other, non college club so she could cave in non-term time, here she met her husband to be.
As time passed by we lost contact for a short time but we met up again and I introduced her to the club I was then caving with, T.S.G. her and her husband duly joined up.
She is still heavily involved in caving as the British Caving Library chief librarian.
