Mendip Cave Festival 2018

Interesting reading.
It's great that different opinions are aired like this as it gives us here at CavefestUK everything we need.  Information.
Our basic aim has always been bringing new and old together in the community. Cavers who simply don't know how or where can enjoy an experience geared specifically towards showing them, and providing for them, everything they need to further their curiosity.
Thanks everyone.

We here at CavefestUK would like to thank the Mendip AONB. They have kindly agreed to run a guided walk from Priddy village hall at 10am on Saturday 5th May.
The full details are on the CavefestUK website on the timetable page
Please show your support.
Thanks you.

We were told today that this event/function/get together will happen in other areas as well - I think South Wales was mentioned for later in the year?

I don't see an issue with it, and I think it's a fair achievement to get mere mortals access to many mendip caves without knowing the funny handshakes or who to do them with.  :tease: ;)

There is indeed a South Wales event later this year. August bank holiday. Details are on the website.
It must also be said that the ease of access is not often as simple as it is suggested. Leaders availability is often an issue. This event, and others to follow, are aimed towards bringing the community together and giving new experiences to people old and new.
Coming into the caving community can be daunting for some, (we are a secretive and protective bunch at times) and CavefestUK gives opportunity to all to discover new connections, and caves.

We hope to see you all in May.
Thanks again.

*For anyone planning on attending the MCR demo, please make sure you read this...if you know anyone interested please share this info with them*

"At present we are planning on having four underground work stations,1, Communications,(at the entrance to Mud Passage route from the Gorge) 2, Stretcher packaging,( The Gorge above the Bridge) 3, Pitch Hauling,(At the fixed ladder Devil?s Elbow route) 4, Casualty assessment, and ?Before the rescue turns up? (The 1st climb, Mud passage route). We are planning to man each work station with two Wardens plus relevant equipment.

Because of the rules regarding the cave that we have to abide to, my plan is:
People can park at the Farm as per usual, but please share cars. The ?1 per car will still apply, and please respect any directions from the farmer or his wife
Also please remember that valid permits will be required and the minimum age is now 18.
Checking in will be done at the Entrance (or very close)
Cave teams will need to go in at 5 minute intervals.
There will be two time slots for cavers wishing to attend, 20 cavers at 10:30 am (4 teams of 5) and 20 cavers at 1:00 pm (4 teams of 5). Hopefully every one out of the cave by 16:20"

Many thanks!

LIVE BAND/SINGER WANTED! We need a replacement act for an Elvis Tribute slot for the evening- Saturday the 6th of May @ Priddy. The slot is for an hour.

Unfortunately the act has had a family issue and can no longer make it? ideally we would like another Elvis impersonator but we are open to suggestions.

We are a free event fundraising for MCR so we can't offer much?but we can offer free beer and food and can promise a crowd of 100 or so people to show off to!

Please do your best to help us out and many thanks in advance!

CaveFestUK team.

I am very very sad to say I registered myself and the mister and was super duper looking forward to this weekend and, you know, maybe actually going caving n'at....only to find we were otherwise committed.

And I bought a kaftan and turban for nothing.

Gutted....as I was going to be rocking some super blue eyeshadow for the 70s disco as well.

Sniff.

So no Warke's this weekend....I'll have to wait until Hidden Earth for cavers and beer and all that fun stuff.
