Mendip Cave Festival 2018

I agree that the opportunity for a stint at the sharp end would be a good plus point. I'm sure keen cavers will sign up for some digging.
If any more sites would like to be added let us know.

[gmod]Two posts removed which seemed to be totally off topic and designed to upset this thread. Keep up the good work cavefest. [/gmod]

Digging options are currently being arranged and will be available during CavefestUK s mendip event.  Updates have been made to the website and submissions now include digging.
If you are among the digging community, please help us to help you and spread the word, as your involvement is key.
Dig workshops are an option we may look to include too. If anyone feels they would like to run such a workshop please get in touch directly at,
cavefestuk@yahoo.com.

Thanks again.

GREAT NEWS...........

The online shop at cavefestuk.co.uk is now open for business
.
We have a small range of T-shirts in a good range of sizes, and most importantly, all profits from the sales of all T-shirts will be donated to the Mendip Cave Rescue.
Please dig deep and see that this event brings a good revenue for the guys who are there to watch over us and help is when we need them.

Hello everyone.

Great news for you all.
CavefestUK's Mendip cave festival
Photograph competition

Is now open for registration.

Please visit our website and show your interest and register.
Great prize up for grabs for the winner.

Hello everyone.
We do hope you all enjoyed the challenges that the snow brought us. As cavers, I'm sure your first priority was making sure we could get a chance to go caving and that the car/van/ truck would make it there. Never mind the return.
It is nice to see that communities were coming together during the short spell of snow helping each other out of whatever drift had gobbled you up unexpectedly.
We do hope you are all safe and well none the less.
This month brings us ever closer to our Mendip cave festival and it's nice to see that local clubs are pulling together to make it all happen. The Wessex CC has given us a whole page in their journal. Thank you greatly for that.
Please remember to register your involvement online and come and join the fun.
Thank you once again.
CavefestUK.

So today we meet the members of the Cambrian caving council. Our aim is to gain their support for South Wales Cavefest this coming August.
CavefestUK will update later today with any news we have.
In the meantime........
Don't forget to sign up and enter your submissions if you are looking to attend the Mendip cave festival this May. Some trips are already filled and others are filling fast.
We look forward to seeing you all at one of these festivals.
And remember. Cave safe and stay safe.

I've been having a bit of a think about events such as this and I'm not sure I see the point. What is the Mendip Cavefest? Something that just arranges trips for people and just means that they won't have to get off of their arses to sort out getting a few friends together and organising a key or a permit?
I think it does put added strain on our fragile caves, that are already in danger from overuse in some cases, to have an event that has the stated aim of putting hundreds of caver hours worth of wellies in them.
I'm all for promoting caving as a sport, but is this the right way to be doing it? Is it promoting caving?

Best people stop promoting caving full stop then if overuse of fragile caves is a problem.

Best not to promote CRoW as well.

That's all right as it isn't promoting caving. It's just organising trips for people that can't be arsed to sort out their own.

Usual case of thinking everyone is the same as you. A common starting point for some on this forum.

What makes you think I have friends? let alone caving ones.

We were told today that this event/function/get together will happen in other areas as well - I think South Wales was mentioned for later in the year?

I don't see an issue with it, and I think it's a fair achievement to get mere mortals access to many mendip caves without knowing the funny handshakes or who to do them with.  :tease: ;)

So should it be called BillyNoMatesFest then?  :spank: ;)

I don't have an issue with it. It just seems to be some sort of permit arrangement service.

Great to see people putting in such an effort to organise these events.  Perhaps the main thing is bringing people together.  However Cavefest starts out who can say where it will lead to.  There is every chance that in years to come this will be the premier caving event of the year.
