I had a look to see how easy it was to find out this sort of information, and it seems that the surveys of the new finds in Eastwater are published in BB number 519. So, if you really want to know you can look it up.

Hello Anne, can you look it up for me, it is not on the internet, Bracknell Library does not keep the Belfry.
Cheers

Whitelackington. You should be perfectly capable of finding this for yourself.

If you can't find it on the internet and am 100 miles from The Belfry,
pray, HOW?
Even without Graham's link, you can do it.

1. Go to the BEC website
2. Click on publications, and Belfry Bulletin.
3. You had already been told that issue 519 was the one to look for. You notice that 519 seems to be missing from the index list. So you type 519 in the 'filter' box, and up it pops.

4. Naughty BEC for apparently leaving issue 519 out of the on-screen index.

I did have a brief look for you, but as you have it now to browse I'll let you read it for yourself. Looking quickly, it seems that by Spring 2004 they had extended the cave by 111m in Morton's Pot and Unlucky Strike.

I am just capable of adding 111 to 2800
but the 1998  figure of 2800 was a gestimate,
so are we now expected to guess that Eastwater
is now  2911metres  in length or has that length now been passed :-\
That was about two years ago.
I also see that Mad Phil claims that the deepest part of Eastwater is 155m
not the 160m that was claimed in the 1998 M.U.
Is it getting less deep? :-\

Thanks for the link, Graham & Peter.

That's all right Whitelackington, as long as it's appreciated we don't mind.

Yes thanks chaps, sorry, I had to go out, very interesting write up by MadPhil, quite exciting, Sounds like if he can cobble any determined thin diggers together, there is more, hard won stuff to come.
Actually, other than the fact that Eastwater & Upper Flood are at the same altitude,  about the same lengths,

does very thin don't mind danger and hard to get diggers ring any bells, perhaps it is the same cave but from different entrances, has anyone matched the surveys

There is a difference between Upper Flood Swallet & Eastwater Cavern

It is not often that Eastwater Cavern upper series is flooded, thus precluding entry,
although I have heard flooding is a problem in the lower series.

I have seen the entrance series of Eastwater flooded enough to keep me out.

Mind you, it wouldn't have to be very wet to keep me out.  ;) ;)

Possibly Eastwater Cavern has three kilometres of caveable passage,
possibly Upper Flood Swallet only has (so far) got two and a half kilometres of passage.
eastwater is thought to be the fourth longest Mendip cave,
perhaps U.F.S. is at present the fifth longest mendip cave?

However,
the furthest two points in Eastwater are less than a quarter of a kilometre apart,

whereas,
the furtherest two points in U.F.S. are OVER HALF A KILOMETRE APART
