Non-working Stenlight without battery. Consigned to srt bag but subsequently awol somewhere between Mistral entrance, Red/Black Wall Chambers, crawl into into Ratbag, Cigalere, Mud Hall. Crap lamp, 3rd time it's failed, but nevertheless would like back as batteries & charger lonely. Cheers. Sweeny

I honestly don't want to turn this into a lamp thread but could you please describe the failures?

Hi, Cable from headpiece failed internally on two separate occasions, original charger unit failed. Trip to Mistral: worked perfectly at car but completely dead on arrival at entrance. Mate has one & he has similar charger issues albeit new style charger seems better. Good lamp when working but reliability issues make it impossible to recommend

I've used mine at the very least once a week for the last six years as have a few others I cave with. Couldn't recommend them highly enough! :)

Hi,

This is a known problem of the Sten, were the cable goes into the lamphouse the cable can move over the edge of the backplate causing to break  and causing a shortcut. You can solve this by making an extra small plate to support the cable at that spot.

You screw that plate with a small lip to support the cable between the connecter of the cable and the backplate. This avoids the rubbing of the cable against the plate.

Btw  a clip of how to replace the cable : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtaLxS_k6bI&app=desktop
At around 00:50 you see how the backplate is replaced. You insert your support plate just before that, the plate is fixed by the 2 screws and the lip at the right side will support the cable.

I'll see if I can find a photo of that fix.

Thanks Leclused, much appreciated. if Stenlight turns up then will look at this fix.

Re: Blakethwaite post: even if I owned a perfectly working piece of kit  suspect I might still hesitate to give it such a wholehearted recommendation if aware others not in same fortunate position? Anyway this is Lost & Found & so I'll resist continuing debate on merits of Stenlights & providing a constructive recommendation.Cheers.

Two photo's of the fix. The plate is not between the backplate and the connector but above the backplate :)

Sorry for the poor quality, took them in my basement with my phone. But I think you will understand what the fix is :)
