Depending on size, and assuming it was symmetrical, it looks like it might be part of a clip or buckle type fastener for a webbing or tape strop. Of so quite modern. "Banding Tape" could be another term?

I'm wondering if that handle-thing was originally symmetrical (a wiggle at both ends) but snapped - and why it was discarded. If so it wouldn't be a cranking handle.

Liking that oil lamp, from the shape that must be really old?

I would agree, looking at the shape of the bottom end , it looks like it was curving round like the other end. Possibly some sort of cable support bracket?

No idea about the age of the lamp. However, it is a very old design. In 1981 my wife found a pottery lamp of the same design in a Roman working at Rio Rinto. It was subsequently carbon dated to the first century AD.

We will get a video of the lamp on an upcoming trip , in much better light I think to aid people identifying it - also a scale ruler . @ChrisJC

I can't see any reason for a cranking handle to have that double bend. Normally you'd have the dog on one end and the other end straight and in line with it.

Having used some funny cave and mine gate keys in the past, is it possible it's some custom key or lever that only worked in one specific, but very useful device? It reminds me of an old engine shaft lid 'key' that we have at the TSG.

You and Chris both think you no and you don’t …
If that's me you mean, I have no idea what it is, all I said was I don't believe it's a starting handle.

But, just to understand the thread, are you trying to find out what these things are, or do you know, and it's a quiz?
