I can't answer Fjell's question, but I do agree that Gleistein 9-mm (albeit it looks a bit thicker that some other 9-mm ropes) is excellent rope. I'm intrigued, however, as to why there are two versions ? a yellow one and an orange one (in my estimation the yellow one is slightly better, but that's a very subjective opinion that I'd be hard to justify, really).

From memory, Nigel Ball, bless him, was distributing it for Gleistein a few years ago, and they offered him a custom colour choice if he ordered more than a kilometre, so he specified the yellow with black highlight - called it 'Wasp'. That may be how the yellow one you used appeared. We got some, but the rest I think is the standard orange/silver version - mine certainly is orange anyway. I don't think there's any structural difference between the two.

I agree with Mark that descents can be a little scary if you're used to stiffer, thicker stuff, but most of us are pretty proficient at SRT, and we're definitely averse to carrying heavy loads if we can avoid it. We certainly would keep an eye on novices, though if they can learn on this I think they'd be a lot better a lot quicker. Locking-off is much easier for example, especially when it's cold, or the rope is dry.
